Matusow Eliminated with the "Best Hand He's Had All Day"

Mike Matusow - eliminated
Mike Matusow - eliminated
We are down one colorful personality in the 2009 Main Event. Mike Matusow moved all in for about 6,000 from early position. Action folded to a player in late position who reraised to 15,000, clearing out everyone else in the hand. Matusow's {K-Hearts} {Q-Spades} was in big trouble against his opponent's {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} and never improved.

After his elimination, Matusow turned to Greg Mueller and said, "That was the best hand I've had all day."

Fricke Can't Fool His Opponent

Fricke gave away a lot of chips on this last hand
Fricke gave away a lot of chips on this last hand
Jimmy Fricke raised to 2,400 from middle position and the big blind called. The flop came down {9-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {2-Spades}. The big blind checked over to Fricke, who bet out 3,600. The player tossed in a raise and announced,"8,200." With action back on Fricke, he opted to put in another raise to 19,000. The player made the call.

The turn brought the {4-Hearts} and the big blind checked this street as well. Fricke counted out some chips and then paused. After his brief pause, he threw out a 28,000-chip bet. It only took a moment for his opponent to announce that he was all in. Fricke snap-peeked at his cards and quickly mucked his hand.

Sineath Signs Off

Bill Sineath put in the second raise preflop in a recent hand, reraising an open raiser from 2,200 to 7,300. The button player then reraised again, to a total of 17,000. Only Sineath called.

The flop came down {J-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {6-Hearts}, prompting Sineath to push all in for 40,200. His opponent studied the board.

"I'm pretty sure you just three-outed me," Sineath's opponent said. "But I do have backdoor hearts..." He decided to call.

Sineath: {9-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}

Sineath's opponent hit his gutshot Broadway draw with the turn {10-Diamonds} to cinch the hand and send Sineath to the rail.

Grant Levy Doubles Up

Grant Levy raised from middle position, the big blind three-bet,Levy moved all in and the big blind called.

It was a classic race with Levy's {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} up against {A-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}. Levy, however, came out on the right end of the coinflip, the board running out {8-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} to double him up to 98,000.

"I Know It Was Crap"

Jesse Rios - Yeah, I played 10-6 suited. So what?
Jesse Rios - Yeah, I played 10-6 suited. So what?
We caught up with Jesse Rios just as he doubled up to 55,000.

Rios, who called a preflop raise of 2,200 from the button with {6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} said he knew the hand was was horrible but, "I just had a feeling about it." When the flop came {Q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}, Rios moved all in for 21,400 and got check-called by a player in middle position holding {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}.

When the board finished {3-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}, Rios' instincts proved right as he made his flush and doubled to 55,000.

Garrett Doubles Up An Opponent

Brad Garrett had an opponent on the ropes with {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts}. The player held {9-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}. As the ESPN cameras rushed on over to catch the action, Garrett began going into his normal comedic self. The player looked worried and Garrett's antics and jokes seemed to ease him and settle him down.

The flop came down {J-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {3-Spades} and Garrett said, "Look! There ya go!"

The turn brought the {7-Clubs} and Garret began yelling for a king. His pleas were not fufilled as the river fell the {4-Hearts}. It was only a small hit to his stack though, as Garret dropped to 58,000.

Four Fours Just Enough for Smith

On table 47, there was just an all in between two players, one holding pocket fours and one holding pocket tens. The board ran out uneventfully to hold the pocket tens and eliminate the player with the underpair.

Just seconds later, we heard, "All in and a call on Table 152," which is directly across the isle from the other table. Wandering over there, we see a battle of the blinds with fours and tens again. The small blind had {10-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} and he had raised to open the pot. From the big blind, Kenneth Smith moved all in with {4-Spades} {4-Hearts}, and his opponent quickly made the call with the covering stack.

This time though, the board would run out in more interesting fashion. Right in the door came the {4-Clubs}, and the dealer paused for a beat with just that one card visible before rolling out the flop of {4-Clubs} {7-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}! The {J-Clubs} on the turn would end the hand, and the {10-Clubs} that hit the river was too little too late for the small blind. With his crucial quad fours, Smith has doubled up to about 40,000.

Pickering Eliminated

We were all set to follow Jamie Pickering to his new table, but he busted on one of the last hands before his table was broken. Joe Sebok started the action by raising to 2,300 from early position. One player called before Jamie Pickering reraised to 6,000 from the big blind. Sebok and the third player both called.

The flop came {7-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {4-Clubs}. Pickering had first action and bet 12,000. That was enough to fold Sebok, but the third player called again. On the {3-Diamonds} turn, Pickering moved all in for 23,000. His opponent double-fist-pump-snap-called with the nuts, {5-Spades} {6-Spades}. That left Pickering's pocket pair, {A-Spades} {A-Clubs}, drawing dead. He is eliminated.
