Bringin' in the Big Gunz

We'd like to welcome two of the biggest players in the game to the blue section. Both named Phil; Phil Ivey and Phil Hellmuth have joined tables in the section.

Ivey sat down in the five seat with Sorel Mizzi and David "Devilfish" Ulliot to make for a pretty solid table. Hellmuth joined the ranks of Alexander Kostritsyn, Josh Arieh, and Chris Bjorin. Both of these tables should make for a lot of fun action.

Ivey Raises, Bets, Folds

After two players limped into the pot, Phil Ivey raised the action to 11,000 from the cutoff. All of the limpers except one folded, and we saw a flop of {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}.

The limper check-called Ivey's continuation bet of 15,000 and both players checked down the rest of the board which fell {2-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. When his opponent showed {A-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, Ivey tossed his cards in the muck.

Catching the action on the turn on a board of {5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}, Richard En fired a bet of 16,000 into the middle and his opponent went into deep deliberation.

"If you call we can check it down?" proposed En, which seemed to entice his opponent to call.

As promised, En and his opponent both checked the river in the dark before the {J-Diamonds} landed.

Both players tabled ace-king and they chopped it up! En is at 145,000 chips.

One Out for Soulier? No Problem!

The cry of "All in and a call" was raised at Fabrice Soulier's table. A player with fewer chips than Soulier was all in with {J-Hearts} {10-Clubs}. Soulier was attempting to knock the player out with {9-Spades} {9-Clubs}.

The flop {7-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {3-Hearts} was a safe one for Soulier, as it did not improve his opponnt's hand. The table let out a murmur when the {10-Hearts} hit the turn. It made a pair of tens for Soulier's opponent and left Soulier looking for one card, and one card only, to secure the elimination. He needed the {9-Diamonds} to make a set of nines, and got it! The dealer burned and turned the {9-Diamonds} to the gasps and groans of the table.

"One out," said Soulier simply. "On the turn I was like 'not the ten of hearts' and boom, ten of hearts."

Soulier is up to 95,000.

Tran Bluff is Picked Off

JC Tran raised to 5,400 from UTG and got called in three spots.

The {K-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {8-Clubs} flop was checked to the player in middle position, who bet 14,500. The cutoff and big blind folded, and Tran made the call.

Both players checked the {5-Clubs} turn before Tran bet 26,000 on the {A-Hearts} river. His opponent called and Tran was forced to show {10-Hearts} {9-Hearts} for a missed straight draw, beaten by the middle position's {K-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}

Tran is down to 108,000.

Decision, Interrupted

On a flop of {9-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {7-Clubs}, the player first to act checked, and Alex Kostritsyn put in a bet of 8,000. His opponent called and checked again when the {8-Spades} came on the turn. Kostritsyn fired another 22,000, and his opponent once again made the call.

The last card off was the {4-Hearts}. With it checked again, Kostritsyn loaded up 75,000 and fired at the pot one last time. His opponent went deep into the tank, but he would be interrupted mid-thought. Phil Hellmuth, a floor person, and a whole gaggle of camera and sound guys made their way to the table after Hellmuth's table had broken. The distraction was a lengthy one, and the player finally folded to Kostritsyn's bet.

With the Brat's arrival, Table 43 is now loaded:
Seat 2: Alex Kostritsyn
Seat 3: Josh Arieh
Seat 7: Phil Hellmuth
Seat 9: Chris Bjorin

Arieh Doubles Through Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth moved to table 43, seat 7 joining Josh Arieh and Alexander Kostritsyn. He sat down and immediatly played his first hand in the big blind in the following hand:

Alex Kostritsyn raised the pot to 5,000 and Josh Arieh called from behind. Hellmuth came along for the ride in the big blind saying, "I have a big hand here, boys."

The flop came down {Q-Clubs} {8-Spades} {7-Diamonds} and action was checked to Josh Arieh, who bet 12,000. Hellmuth check-raised to 28,000 and Kostritsyn got out of the way.

Arieh reraised to 63,000. Hellmuth asked for a count of Arieh's remaining stack, and after hearing he had 48,300 more he moved all in.

Arieh snap called.

Hellmuth: {8-Clubs} {4-Spades}
Arieh: {Q-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}

When Hellmuth turned over his hand he reconized the severity of his mistake saying, "I'm drawing dead. Good play, kid"

Arieh doubles up with trip queens to 245,000 while Hellmuth takes a hit to 223,000.

Rick Barabino called an opponent's all in out of the cutoff as he sat in the big blind.

Barabino: {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}
Opponent: {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}

The board ran out {K-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} to see Barabino climb back to 390,000 after slipping in the early parts of this level.

Schneider Shoots Back Up

With about 40,000 in the middle and the board showing {2-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, Tim Phan checked and Tom Schneider took a moment to ponder the situation. He pulled out a stack of ten orange (5000) chips, divided it into two, then riffled them for a while before finally pushing forward the bet of 50,000.

Phan then went into the tank. He only had about 55,000 behind. Finally he let it go.

Schneider is back up to 230,000 now.

Chainsaw's Main Event Cut Short

When a player in early position made it 6,500 to go, Allen "Chainsaw" Kessler moved all in for his last 31,000. He got the call and started a classic race.

Kessler: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
Opponent: {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}

The board came {Q-Spades}{8-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and Kessler was left sucking wind as his big slick couldn't catch his opponent's under-pair.
