No Rest for Glo

The buzz is certainly back in the Rio today as the entire Main Event field is all under the same roof for the first time in a week. Things were not so lively yesterday though with nearly everyone taking the day off for a little late-Series R&R. Gloria Balding never gets a day off though, and she was one of the few who was hard at work just like any other day. Check out her update from yesterday for a little prologue to today's action:

Liz Lieu Doubles Up

Liz Lieu
Liz Lieu
Liz Lieu got her last chips in the middle on a flop of {5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{4-Clubs} with her {9-Hearts}{9-Spades} holding the lead, but her opponent had some outs with {6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}.

"It would be sick if a diamond came on the turn," quipped Dennis Phillips, and right on cue the {J-Diamonds} hit the board.

"Thanks Dennis!" snapped Lieu, "Black face!"

She got her wish as the {K-Spades} landed to double Lieu up to a more respectable 43,000 chips.

Ashes to Ashes...

The biggest cricketing test series in the world, the Ashes, is currently going on in England right now.

One man who made his name in series past is currently sitting in the Brasilia room on table 211, seat 8. The man in question being Shane Warne, or for comparative purposes for non-cricketing nations, 'the Michael Jordan of Cricket'.

Unfortunately, he has just lost around 100,000 and is down to 150,000. He flopped a flush with {J-Hearts} {10-Hearts} against a set of kings and got all the money in on the turn but the river paired the board to boat up his opponent.

Wasicka Plays Big Stack Bully

Action folded to Paul Wasicka, who made it 3,600 to play from the button. The small blind folded and the big blind re-popped the action, making it 10,400 to go.

Wasicka considered his options and then reraised again, pushing an additional 25,000 into the pot, making it 39,000 total. His opponent looked him over and said, "Deja vu all over again, huh?" before reluctantly mucking his hand. Wasicka has 140,000.

Cooler Chills ElkY

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier has doubled up one of the short stacks at his table, the short stack's {A-Hearts} {A-Spades} miles ahead of ElkY's never-getting-away-from-those {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs}.

Board: {5-Clubs} {3-Spades} {2-Spades} {10-Clubs} {J-Clubs}

Not to worry though, ElkY fans -- this was merely a tiny scratch on the nicely waxed bodywork of his hefty stack, and he remains at roughly the 200,000 mark.

Mizzi Doubles Up Huge

With about 140,000 already in the pot, Sorel Mizzi moved all in for 108,000 after a flop of {10-Spades} {7-Hearts} {6-Clubs} . His opponent made the call.

Mizzi: {10-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}
Button: {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {10-Spades} {7-Hearts} {6-Clubs}{5-Hearts} {9-Spades} allowing Mizzi's set of tens to hold up.

Sorel Mizzi - 360,000

Big River for Binger

Nick Binger opened with a raise to 3,400 from the cutoff, Tomer Benvenisti called from the button, then Michael Michnik raised to 13,400 from the big blind. Binger reraised to 31,300, Benvenisti folded, then after a pause Michnik announced he was all in. A count revealed it would take just under 65,000 more for Binger to call.

Binger thought for three minutes, then finally made the call. He turned over {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}, but shook his head when he saw Michnick's {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}.

The flop was {K-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{7-Spades}. The turn brought the {3-Diamonds}. Then, BOOM -- the {Q-Spades} on the river, and Michnick is out.

The table was still wide-eyed and chatting about it for the lengthy time it took Binger to stack his chips. Binger is up to 340,000 now.

Lovely Paola Chipping Up

Paola Martin
Paola Martin
Paola Martin is playing things a bit more incognito today than she did on Days 1 and 2. Her head is bowed and large sunglasses cover her face. But that didn't stop us from spotting her involved in a three-way pot from the small blind that had been raised to 3,100 preflop. She check-called a bet of 5,000 on the {Q-Clubs} {9-Spades} {6-Clubs} flop, 12,000 on the {A-Hearts} turn and 30,000 on the {9-Hearts} river. Martin's opponent, the aggressor in the hand, showed down {K-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}, having flopped a pair of queens. Martin quickly breathed a sigh of relief and showed {A-Clubs} {10-Clubs} for a turned pair of aces and the winner.

"I thought you had a flush draw," Martin's opponent told her.

"I did!" she replied. Martin is up to about 100,000 chips.

Maridu Thinks Mean Boys Just Need Feeding

Maridu Mayrinck is up to 43,000 after enjoying a double up at her starting table, and has now been moved to the orange section in the Amazon Room. She's not happy, though.

"I'm at a table full of mean boys," she said. "They're all mean, just look at their faces." One of the gentlemen at her table giggled. "I think they're just hungry, though, I might give them my $10 food voucher."
