Adler Eliminated

Jason Adler got his stack all in preflop against Burt Boutin and we had a classic race.

Adler: {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}
Boutin: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

The flop of {Q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} put Boutin in front, but Adler remained optimistic. "I think the five of spades is coming," he said.

The turn was close but no cigar, bringing the {4-Hearts}. "Five of spades," Adler called, but he was again denied, as the river brought the flush with the {8-Hearts}. Adler left the table as Boutin increased his stack to about 250,000.

Affleck Doing Big Things

Matt Affleck
Matt Affleck
Matt Affleck put in a raise under the gun, making it 14,000 to play. The betting folded all the way around to the big blind where Dumitru Filipescu reraised to 31,000. Affleck called, heads up the rest of the way.

The flop came out {4-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {9-Diamonds}. Filipescu stuck in a healthy bet of 100,000, and Affleck moved all in with the big stack. Seeing no choice, Filipescu quickly called off his remaining 250,000 chips to put his tournament life in jeopardy.

Showdown
Affleck: {J-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}
Filipescu: {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades}

Filipescu's aces were in the lead and Affleck was drawing to fill his open-ended straight draw. The turn card ended all the drama right there as the {7-Spades} made Affleck the unbeatable straight to the jack. The river was a meaningless {K-Hearts}, and Affleck draws lucky to eliminate Dumitru Filipescu from the Main Event. He's up to 1,450,000 now, breathing hard down the necks of the chip leaders.

Ivey Avoids the Bigger Stack

Eugene Fouksman raised to 16,000 and Phil Ivey re-raised to 45,000 from the button. He got called by Bernard Perner from the big blind and Fouksman folded.

When Perner led for 30,000 on a flop of {10-Spades}{4-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}, Ivey decided not to tangle with the only player who has him covered and mucked his hand.

Ivey Takes Another One

With a board reading {J-Clubs}{7-Spades}{A-Clubs}{8-Spades}, David Wickham checked to Phil Ivey who bet 70,000. Wickham made the call and checked the river, which brought the {3-Diamonds}.

When Ivey bet 120,000, Wickham fell into the tank for more than a minute before finally releasing his hand.

Kim Lays Down Aces

We passed by Kelly Kim's table and saw him tanking for his tournament life. With 125,000 chips up for grabs, and playing about 105,000 chips behind in his stack, Kim was facing a bet of 78,000. Kim and his opponent were at the river, {J-Hearts} {3-Spades} {5-Hearts} {K-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}.

"Ahhh," said an exasperated Kim. "I should have got it in on the flop." He tanked for another minute before folding {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} face-up.

"So sick," he complained.

Gifford Gets Arzoomanian

Paren Arzoomanian - Out
Paren Arzoomanian - Out
A player in the hijack raised to 16,000 to open the pot, and Paren Arzoomanian moved all in for 124,000 in the next seat over. The button folded, but Ryan Gifford re-raised all in from the small blind. That was enough to fold the original raiser and put the two men heads up for Arzoomanian's tournament life. He tabled {5-Clubs} {6-Clubs} and he was in bad shape versus Gifford's {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}.

The flop was a bit promising, but the board ended up blanking off as it ran {6-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {A-Diamonds}. With his kings up, Gifford takes care of Arzoomanian and works his stack up to 415,000.

Bonomo Makes Deposit to Banks

Justin Bonomo raised before the flop from middle position, and it folded back to Kirk Banks who reraised for 100,000 more from the small blind. Bonomo thought for awhile, then let it go.

Banks is at 345,000 now, while Bonomo slips to 135,000.

Merichko Doubles as Hansel Slides

Michael Merichko was all in preflop for his last 134,000 and had one foot out the door holding {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} when the first four community cards were spread {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades} as his opponent Reed Hensel showed down {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}.

However the river was the {K-Clubs} and Merichko is saved by the king to double up to 275,000. It hasn't been a good level or so for Hansel since he burst the bubble as he's back to 300,000.
