Adam Bilzerian Doubles Through Joel Patchell

Joel Patchell opened for 45,000 from early position and got two callers, including Adam Bilzerian in the big blind. The flop came down {6-Hearts} {5-Spades} {2-Clubs} and the action was checked to Patchell, who bet 90,000. One fold, and the action was back on Bilzerian, who raised to 245,000.

After a bit of a think, Patchell moved all in, having Bilzerian covered. Bilzerian tanked for several minutes before finally calling all in.

Bilzarian showed {5-Hearts} {4-Spades} for middle pair and a straight draw.

"I got nothing," said Patchell as he turned over {J-Spades}{9-Spades}.

The turn was the {10-Diamonds}, the river was the {K-Spades} and Bilzerian doubled up to 2.25 million.

Blackman Loses His Race and His Tournament Life

Scott Blackman
Scott Blackman
Scott Blackman is the next player to be eliminated. He was short-stacked and all in with {Q-Hearts} {10-Clubs} against Jake Abdalla's {8-Clubs} {8-Spades}. The player in the big blind, who was last to act in the hand, open-mucked the other two eights, {8-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}. But that was no problem for Abdalla; his eights held against Blackman's hand on board of {7-Spades} {2-Spades} {3-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} to secure the knockout.

Blackman goes home as the 154th-place finisher in the 2009 Main Event.

A Good Call Goes Unrewarded

Nichoel Peppe opened with an early-position raise to 40,000. In the cutoff seat, Adam York reraised to 150,000, and Peppe made the call to see a flop.

It came down {J-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {3-Clubs}, and after a check from Peppe, York moved all in for his last 247,000. Peppe would consider for a good while before making the call to put her opponent at risk.

Showdown
Peppe: {4-Diamonds} {4-Clubs}
York: {A-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}

And what a call it was! Peppe was in the lead with her pair of fours, and York was two cards away from elimination. The turn was a blank {5-Spades}, but somehow the {Q-Spades} ripped off on the river, drawing a deathly gasp from the table and the rail alike. York improved to the pair of queens, good enough to earn him a come-from-behind double up to 840,000. Peppe has slipped back to 920,000 after that tough beat.

Swidler Eliminated

Carter Swidler moved all in from under the gun for 222,000. Julien Brecard made the call from the big blind after each player folded before him.

Swidler held {A-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} and was ahead of Brecard's {K-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} at the current moment.

The board ran out {J-Spades} {9-Spades} {7-Clubs} {K-Spades} {J-Clubs}, pairing Brecard's king and giving him the elimination of Swidler.

Nguyen Smashes Begleiter's Rockets

Anh Van Nguyen limped in from middle position and action folded over to Steven Begleiter in the big blind and he put in a raise. Nguyen called.

The flop came down {10-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} and Begleiter fired 120,000. Nguyen called.

The turn was the {J-Clubs} and Begleiter checked. Nguyen fired out 180,000. Begleiter called.

The river was the {A-Clubs} and Begleiter checked again. Nguyen bet out 350,000 and Begleiter quickly announced a call.

Begleiter tabled two red aces, {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts}, for a set on the river. Nguyen showed {Q-Spades} {10-Spades} for a straight on the turn and scooped in the pot.

Nguyen now has 1.981 million while Begleiter dropped to 2.5 million.

Phillips Over Tran

Dennis Phillips raised to 42,000 from under the gun, and got a caller in J.C. Tran in the hijack seat.

Phillips showed {K-Spades}{J-Hearts}, and Tran mucked. Phillips has 1.21 million, and Tran 440,000.
