Playing for Pruitt

The World Series of Poker brings together people with all kinds of stories. We just saw a hand go down with Bill "Stimulus Bill" Sineath over at table #152 in the green section where he locked horns with Rolf Slotboom.

On a board of {K-Spades} {J-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds}, Sineath bet out and Slotboom called. On the river, the pot sat slightly under 10,000 chips when the {7-Spades} landed on the felt. Sineath fired a bet of 10,000 and this seemed to make Slotboom uneasy. He tanked... and tanked... and tanked, checking his cards multiple times every thirty seconds or so.

"I really think you have queen ten." said Slotboom while in the tank. Eventually, he folded his hand after going back and forth in his mind about the decision.

"You wanna see it?" said Sineath.

"Not if it's a bluff." said Slotboom.

Sineath then tabled pocket kings. Slotboom mentioned he held pocket aces and mucked top set. The majority of the table, including Sineath, seemed to take Slotboom's claim to be an honest one. The pot put Sineath up towards 75,000, but that's not the real story behind this hand.

Back on July 13, 2008, U.S. Army Corporal Pruitt Rainey died in Afghanistan. He was deployed there in May of 2007 after being stationed in Italy. Pruitt was the son of one of Sineath's friends. Pruitt's father is on the rail a few feet away from Sineath as he watches him battle with the likes of Mike Caro and Rolf Slotboom often under the scope of the ESPN cameras.

The father informed us that Rainey dreamed of playing in the WSOP Main Event. In honor of the fallen soldier, Pruitt's father and five others are playing the Main Event this year. Sineath is included in this group and all of them are wearing specially made shirts to honor Pruitt that say "Playing for Pruitt". We wish them all the best of luck!
