Theory and Practice

Gregory Brooks opened with a raise to 2,300, Carter King called, then Justin Anderson pushed all in for about 35,000 from the cutoff.

Bill Gazes thought for a long while from the button, before finally letting it go. Brooks and King instantly folded as well, prompting a groan from Gazes.

"I thought you had something, raising back-to-back," he said to Brooks who had open-raised the previous hand as well. "In theory," answered Brooks, offering no other information regarding his hand.

After the hand, Anderson asked Gazes what he had.

"Let me give you some advice," said Gazes with a smile. "When you want to know what somebody had, start by saying 'I had _____. What did you have?'" Thus ended the dialogue.

Gazes better have something soon -- he is down to about 42,000 right now.
