Tran Runs Into a Set

Kenny Tran, now about 400,000 chips lighter
Kenny Tran, now about 400,000 chips lighter
We join a huge pot in progress at one of the far tables with the flop showing {K-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}. The betting action was unclear, but it ended with Mark Ader moving all in for 380,000 total. Kenny Tran was his opponent, and Tran would pause to consider his position carefully before making the call for half of his stack.

Ader tabled {9-Hearts} {9-Clubs}, but Tran wasn't showing just yet. He took the extra time -- another three or four minutes -- to get Ader's count, cut out the call from his stack, and push his own chips in front of Ader before turning over his {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades}, drawing slim. The {A-Clubs} on the turn was a great sweat, but the door slammed when the {5-Clubs} hit the river.

With that exchange, Ader is all the way up to 895,000, pushing Kenny Tran down to 366,000.
