Sun is Rising

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Two players in early position limped into a pot before Song Sun pushed his last 1,000 chips into the middle. Both limpers called and checked the pot down.

The board read {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{8-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} and the all three hands were opened:

EP Player 1: {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
EP Player 2: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Sun: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

Sun's queens were best, tripling him up to around the starting stack of 3,000.

The Champ Returns

Last year's Casino Employees Event winner, Andrew Cohen, is back to defend his title. He's sitting at Table 14, Seat 9 and currently has about 5,600 in chips.

Last year Cohen took home $83,833 for his win and no doubt hopes to repeat it.

The Next Cher

With the board reading {A-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}, Theanne Sergeant was faced with a bet of 1,000 from her opponent. She elected to call, and the dealer burned a card then spiked a non-club ten on the river.

When checked to, Sergeant immediately blurted, "All in."

Her opponent quickly called and tabled {K-Spades}{8-Spades} only to see that Sergeant filled-up on the turn when she showed {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}.

After eliminating her opponent, Sergeant laughed at our reporters and told them to use her first name only. "I'm going to be the next Cher," she explained.

Chester McQuillen Doubles Up

Chester McQuillen, who works security at Planet Hollywood, was sitting with 1,250 in chips when he went all in with {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. He was called by the player on the button who tabled {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} and things were looking bleak for McQuillen.

A flop of {k-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} kept the aces out in front. However the {6-Hearts} came on the turn and McQuillen improved to a set. The {2-Spades} on the river sealed the deal and allowed McQuillen to more than double his stack. He is currently sitting with about 3,200 in chips.

Wilmot is All Set

When we arrived at Table 60 in the Pavilion Room the dealer had already flopped {6-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{A-Spades} in a raised pot.

Matthew Wilmot checked and so too did an opponent in middle position. A player on the button bet 600 and both Wilmot and the middle-position player called.

All three players checked the {3-Clubs} on the turn, but after the {5-Hearts} fell on the river Wilmot led for 800. Only the middle-position player called and Wilmot rolled over {2-Spades}{2-Hearts} for a winning set of deuces.

"That river cost me money I think," Wilmot quipped as he stacked his winnings. He has reason to smile though, he now sits with over 8,000 in chips.

Jack McClelland Having a Laugh

Jack McClelland

With there being a shortage of notable personalities at the Casino Employees Event, the other players at Jack McClelland's table took note of the media coverage around their table. A player at Seat 1 asked, "Excuse me sir, are you famous?"

McClelland paused for a moment before replying, "Well, I'm old."

The table had a quick laugh before McClelland shared that his occupation is Tournament Director at the Bellagio.

Notables in the Field

A few notable players have been spotted taking part in today's kickoff event.

Tournament guru Jack McClelland is seated at Table 20, Seat 7. Meanwhile, Anthony Yeh, who recently had two final-table runs at the 2010 Caesars World Series of Poker Circuit event is seated at Table 25, Seat 4.

Also spotted were Kyle Morris and Rachel Davis. Davis works over at the Bellagio where she "pitches cards and pushes pots" during the night shift most of the time. She is also the daughter of Michael Davis who won the Seniors World Championship event last year.
