Event #10: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship
Day 1 Started
Long before Texas hold'em exerted its dominion over the poker landscape, there was this game that all of the pros played. Each player was dealt two down cards, four up cards, and then a final down card. The game was called seven-card stud and is no longer spread in many of the poker rooms of the world.
But stud is alive and well at the 2010 World Series of Poker. Today the first of the stud events at this year's WSOP is on tap, and it's a doozy. Event #10 is the $10,000 Seven-Card Stud World Championship.
Last year this event saw an epic final table, with Eric Drache, the former WSOP Tournament Director who was responsible for introducing the first satellites to the WSOP, losing heads-up to Freddie Ellis, an East Coast stud legend. Will Drache and Ellis be back this year? Will either make a deep run? Who will become champion?
All of those questions -- and more -- will start to be answered in roughly 20 minutes. Stick around.

The tournament clock dictates that it's time to get down to business. Players have been trickling into the room and taking their seats. The plan tonight is to play through eight levels and return tomorrow to continue the grind.

Opponent: (X) (X) / / (X)
Nguyen: (X) (X) / / (X)
The players all started off with 30,000 chips but Scotty Nguyen is already up to 35,000 after a nice hand that didn't go to showdown. An opponent completed ahead of Nguyen, whose raise drove everyone else out of the pot. Both players checked fourth street. Nguyen re-took the betting lead with an open pair of queens on fifth street. His opponent called one bet there and another on sixth street before folding to a final river bet.
Hawrilenko: (X) (X) / / (X)
Schulman: (X) (X) / / (X)
Nick Schulman managed to get in a bet or raise on every street en route to taking down a sizable pot here in the early-going. Schulman completed on third street and was called only by the bring-in, Matt Hawrilenko. Schulman bet fourth street and check-raiesd on fifth street. Hawrilenko three-bet fifth street, with Schulman opting just to call.
Schulman still had the betting lead on sixth street and fired another bet. Hawrlienko called. But when Schulman bet the river, Hawrilenko tried a raise. Schulman just called, tabling for a full house, tens full of kings. It was a winner when Hawrilenko mucked.
There are bound to be a few more popping up, but our first notable table of death contains a few people we'd probably choose to avoid it at all possible.
