The Dwyte Pilgrim Show

There were already two bets in by the time action got to Dwyte Pilgrim in the big blind. He made it three, and both other players called. The flop came out {8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}, and Pilgrim bet. The next player folded, and the cutoff raised. Pilgrim three-bet, then called when his opponent capped. He bet again after the {q-Spades} on the turn, and the four-better just called. Pilgrim felt like getting one more bet in when the {a-Hearts} fell on the river. But Dwyte's {j-Spades}{j-Clubs} was no good as his opponent showed down {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}.

Pilgrim was left with just 400 chips, which were almost all in the middle already in the small blind the next hand. The cutoff raised, he called with {7-Spades}{3-Spades}, and the big blind called with {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. But Pilgrim flopped a seven, and that was enough to triple him to 1,200.

Recent Eliminations

The blinds are up now and players are really starting to fly out over here. At least as close to flying as you're going to get in a limit tournament. Here are some recent casualties:

Justin Bonomo
Jerry Buss
Rafe Furst
Terrence Chan

Set vs. Set = Chop

Three bets went in preflop between Bryan Devonshire and an opponent at his table.

Multiple bets went in after the {2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} flop and after the {6-Diamonds} turned. Things slowed down after the {9-Diamonds} rivered and the hands were turned over:

Showdown
Devonshire: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Opponent: {2-Clubs}{2-Spades}

Both players flopped a set but chopped the pot with a flush on board.

"Thanks for not having king-x off with a diamond in there," Devonshire joked to his opponent.

Even with the chop Devo is solid with 15,000 chips.

RaSZi Unravelling

Lex Velhuis raised from the cutoff, and both blinds called to see a {a-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop. It checked to him, and RaSZi bet, of course. Erik Cajelais folded his small blind, and the big blind made the call. Mr. BB check-called again after the {8-Diamonds} on the turn. He took the initiative and bet out when the {5-Spades} on the river put another straight card on the board. Veldhuis called, but he could only muck when he saw his opponent's {a-Clubs}{7-Hearts} had rivered an eight-high straight. Veldhuis is down from over 25,000 to 14,700 and is really not happy about it.

Matros' LHE Heater

Just five days ago, Matt Matros took down his first ever WSOP gold bracelet in the first Limit Hold'em event of the series. Today he is cruising, poised to make another deep run.

Matros did slip a bit after calling an opponent down on every street on a recent hand. The board read {2-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades} and his opponent tabled {K-Diamonds}{4-Spades} for a rivered pair of fours. Matros mucked and his opponent was awarded the stack.

No worries for Matros though, he still is strong with over 40,000 chips to his name.

Wired Tres

Russell Rosenblum called a raise from the big blind and the dealer fanned {10-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{8-Hearts}.

Rosenblum check-raised his opponent, and his opponent called. Rosenblum check-called after the {K-Hearts} turned and the action went check-check after the {7-Spades} rivered.

His opponent tabled {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} for king-queen high and Rosenblum opened {3-Spades}{3-Clubs} for a winning pair of threes.

"I was going to call his bet on the river," Rosenblum announced proudly.

He didn't have to make such a decision, and now sits with 14,500 chips.
