Day 1 Concludes
As expected, the $10,000 Deuce-to-Seven Draw Lowball Championship (No-Limit) attracted a star-studded field as poker's elite came out to compete for what has come to be regarded as one of the more prestigious bracelets among the preliminary events.
A total of 101 came out for today's event, making for a prize pool of $949,400. Among the greats making up today's field were Johnny Chan, Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, Jeffrey Lisandro, Erik Seidel, Carlos Mortensen, Doyle Brunson, Huck Seed, Chris Ferguson, Barry Greenstein, Mike Matusow, Daniel Negreanu, Greg Mueller, Tom Schneider, and Billy Baxter. And that's just limiting ourselves to those holding multiple WSOP bracelets!
The first four levels featured those "add-on" chips, meaning we saw only a couple of eliminations before the dinner break. We saw a few more hit the rail as the night came to a close, including Chan, Ivey, and Lederer.
Tommy Vedes held the chip lead during the last couple of levels tonight, only to be overtaken by Homan Houshiar at the very end. Houshiar bagged 116,100 chips once play concluded, and will be at the top of the leaderboard when the 72 remaining players return tomorrow.
