No More Chips for Chen to Count

Count Bill Chen out.
Count Bill Chen out.

No-Limit Hold'em:

Justin Smith checked a {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop, and with about 30,000 already in the pot, Bill Chen bet 25,000. BoostedJ flat called to get to the turn. It came the {4-Hearts}, and Smith checked again. Chen moved in for his last 80,000, and Smith was more than happy to call. With his tournament at risk, Chen showed {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}. But top pair, top kicker looked less appealing when Smith showed {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} for a flopped set and turned full house. Chen had outs to a bigger boat, but the river was a blank. He shook hands with Smith on his way out, telling him, "That was a good play, calling behind with queens. I didn't put you on that." Well, we'd hope not. Pretty sure the math whiz could have figured out that shoving into a set is -EV. With the knockout, Smith's stack was boosted to 270,000.
