Day 1 is Just a Memory

Scott Seiver - chip monster
Scott Seiver - chip monster

After an unexpectedly swift-moving Day 1, our 408-strong starting field has become a much more manageable 120 or so - that's what the number on the clock said as the chips were bagged up, although it had been saying that for a while so the actual number we finished up with is most likely a little under that.

Nevertheless it's been a crazy day of stud in the Amazon Room, and a cornucopia of poker talent was eliminated from the running before our eyes. Jennifer Harman, Phil Ivey, David Williams, Marcel Luske, Chris Ferguson, Chau Giang and Lex Veldhuis were among those who didn't make the Day 2 grade.

The remaining field is no less star-studded, though. Scott Seiver moved into the lead late in the day and remained there until close. He is the man to beat as we head into Day 2, on an impressive 63,800. Still very much in the running, though, although some way behind Seiver, are Carlos Mortensen, Jean Gaspard, Pat Pezzin, Alex Kravchenko and Greg Raymer.

We'll be back at 3pm PT tomorrow, when we will be playing right down to a final table.
