David Baker was only able to hold off the Reaper for so long. In the big blind on his final hand, he re-raised all in after James Dempsey opened with an under-the-gun raise that Sergey Altbregin called. The players were three-way to a flop of . Dempsey and Altbregin checked.
Dempsey made bets on the turn and river. Altbregin called both times. For the side pot, Dempsey showed , a full house, treys full of fives, and a live ace. Altbregin had , kings and a live ace. Baker couldn't beat either of those hands for the main and was eliminated.
James Dempsey raised and then Oleg Shamardin reraised. Sergey Altbregin was on the button and made the call before Dempsey called as well.
The flop came down and action checked around. After the fell on the turn, Dempsey bet and only Altbregin called. The river card was the and Dempsey bet out again. Altbregin tanked and then mucked his hand, allowing Dempsey to scoop the pot.
Dempsey has taken the past few pots at his table and now has 1.07 million in chips.
Things have settled down now that the initial flurry of eliminations completed. The outer table is a series of mostly chopped hands. Eugene Katchalov seems to be taking the worst of it, down to 205,000 chips. Mike Sexton is also struggling, although he recently won a pot with no showdown by betting every street, . Nobody called at the river.
Sam Farha has a bracelet in Omaha Hi/Lo that he won in 2006. If he keeps running as hot as he is right now, he could win another.
Farha, sitting in the small blind, was the only player to call Tai Nguyen's pre-flop raise. Nguyen continued with a bet after Farha checked the flop. Farha called to the turn, where he check-raised Nguyen. Nguyen called, and called another bet after the board paired on the river with the . Farha showed , having turned a set of tens and rivered a full house. He's now up to 535,000.
Tai Nguyen's last hand against Sammy Farha crippled him. He was soon all in from under the gun for his last 10,000. The pre-flop action behind him got a little nuts, as Mike Sexton limped in, Eric Baldwin raised the button and Abe Mosseri re-raised the big blind. Sexton called both raises, then was facing a fourth bet as Baldwin raised again. Mosseri and Sexton both called.
Baldwin led a queen-high flop, , after Mosseri and Sexton checked. All three players went to the turn and checked. On the river , Mosseri's single bet took down the side pot. He also got the main pot with , the nut flush and the nut low. Mosseri is up to about 1,000,000 in chips and Nguyen is out.
Mikael Thuritz put most of his remianing chips in preflop and then committed them on the flop of versus James Dempsey. He held the against the of Thuritz.
The turn was the and then the river the , a little bit of overkill for Dempsey who wound up making quads and sending Thuritz to the rail in 13th place.
We didn't even realize the tournament was back in action before Oleg Shamardin, the shortest of the 12 short stacks, busted. He'll leave with $34,814 in prize money.
