Bloch Wins Without Showdown

A player in middle position raised and then Andy Bloch reraised. His opponent called. The flop came down {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and the player in middle position bet. Bloch raised and the player reraised. Bloch made the call.

The turn was the {K-Clubs} and the first player bet into Bloch. Bloch raised and his opponent called.

The river was the {K-Spades} and Bloch's opponent check-folded to a bet, giving Bloch the pretty big pot early on without a showdown. He's up to 39,000.

Two Team PokerStars Pros in Action

Chad Brown
Chad Brown

Five players saw the flop of {J-Spades}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades} in a raised pot. Representing Team PokerStars Pro Cananda is Daniel Negreanu and he fired a bet. The next two players called. Chad Brown, who dons the Team PokerStars Pro USA badge, raised. The player on the button folded and then Negreanu reraised. The next player folded, the player after that called and then Brown called as well.

On the {6-Spades} turn, Negreanu checked, the next player bet, Brown called and then Negreanu called. The river was the {7-Clubs} and Negreanu checked. The next player bet, Brown folded and then Negreanu called saying, "Well, I might get the other half now."

Negreanu was shown the {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} for a queen-high straight and an ace-three for the low. The Team PokerStars Pro Canada member mucked his hand and didn't get either half.

Shorr Shown a Full House

On the flop of {K-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, three players put in two bets each. One of those players was Shannon Shorr. The turn then added the {4-Hearts} to the board and all three players checked. The river completed things with the {Q-Spades}. One player bet and only Shorr made the call. He was shown the {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades} for queens full of fours and mucked his hand, dropping down to 27,400 chips.

Late Arrivals

Players continue to wander onto the tournament floor. We recently spotted Phil Galfond, Jean-Robert Bellande, Pat Pezzin, Matt Savage and Nick Schulman all taking seats at tables in this event.

Schulman passed by Phil Ivey's table before and exchanged a few greetings.

"You've got those bracelet bets," said Schulman. "How'd you skip the Ladies Event?" A few players at the table laughed.

"I thought about it," said Ivey. "I'd give the money to charity. Then what could they say?"

Koral with an Early Scoop from Ivey

Four players saw the flop of {K-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and first up was Tom Koral. He checked and then the next two players checked as well. Phil Ivey was last to act on the button and bet. Koral raised and the other two folded. Ivey made the call.

The turn brought the {J-Clubs} and Ivey called a bet from Koral. The river was then placed out the {6-Hearts}. Koral bet again and Ivey called.

Koral showed the {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{2-Hearts} for the nut low and a pair of kings with an ace kicker for the high. Ivey checked his hole cards again and stared down at them for a few moments and then mucked. Koral earned an early scoop.

Prop Bets and Table Talk

As you might expect at the start of this tournament, players are making lots of bets with each other and talking about anything but the very small limit poker being played. Lots of last-longer bets are being made; Abe Mosseri and Mike Matusow entered one, and it looked like Tom Dwan andHasan Habib were negotiating another.

Speaking of Matusow, he's been loudly telling Justin Smith and Barry Greenstein, seated at a nearby table, what his opinion is of the $1,500 Stud final table participants. Matusow was overheard to say he would pick any three people in the world at random to stake against any of Sorel Mizzi, Richard Ashby and Dan Heimiller in stud.

The field is still filling with late arrivals. There are three empty tables that have dealers sitting at them; we expect them all to be occupied by players before the end of late registration.

Trips Win Early for Ware

Four players saw a flop of {K-Hearts}{J-Spades}{7-Hearts} for two bets each. There was a bet from one player and only Ron Ware made the call. The turn brought the {2-Clubs} and the player bet again. Ware called which brought the to the {7-Clubs} on the river. The player bet again and Ware called once more.

Ware held the {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} for trip sevens with an ace kicker. His opponent held the {10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} for trip sevens and a ten kicker. Ware's hand was best and he scooped the early pot.

Team PokerStars in the House

Daniel Negreanu

A few of the big names in the field are wearing a special badge on their sleeves representing Team PokerStars. Jason Mercier, Chad Brown and Barry Greenstein are here for Team Pro USA, Johannes Steindl is here for Team Pro Austria, Daniel Negreanu is here for Team Pro Canada and Alex Kravchenko is here for Team Pro Russia.

The Mouth is Here

Most of the time you don't even need to look up to realize Mike "The Mouth" Matusow is in the room. Matusow was just overheard making his way over to his table and when he got there he yelled out about seeing his table draw.

"Look at this table I've got! Look at these f***ing people!" Matusow then gave a quick look around the table again and saw Jason Mercier seated in the nine hole. "I've got the f***ing spook of spooks at my table!" He then checked his seat draw card and made his way to the empty eight seat, right next to Mercier. "Oh man, and I'm right next to him!" he yelled out.

Mercier gave an exuberant "Ha!" as Matusow took the seat next to him.
