"Not Much Happening Here"

Dutch Boyd
Dutch Boyd

"Are there many tables like this?" inquired Jan Sjavik with a rye smile. It was, of course, his Norweigan sarcasm in full flow, as Table 320 has witnessed more action than a Steven Seagal filmography.

When I joined, Dutch Boyd was in the process of capping the action in a hand which saw no less than three players match the bet, one of whom, Paul Sokoloff, was all in. The next two shortest stacks, Dutch Boyd and Regis Burlot were also all in by sixth street.

Boyd: {8-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Burlot: {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{K-Spades}{K-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}

As seventh street was dealt and players began to slide their cards around the felt, I was only able to note the finishing hands of Boyd and Burlot, but Cantu was visibly upset: "Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. That's unbelievable. [He seemed to like the word 'unbelievable'.] That's the worst beat I've ever seen."

But in the end, it was Burlot who took the side pot and half the main with a boat, whilst Boyd took the rest with a low to the eight. Cantu, meanwhile, remained out-raged, and continued to vent to himself.

Cantu - 40,000
Burlot - 29,000
Boyd - 26,000

"You were in bad shape, my friend," said Boyd to Burlot whilst wiping his brow.

As the new dealer came in, he greeted, "What's up?" The table laughed as Sjavik replied, "Oh no, not much happening here."

Craig DiSalvo: {6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} / {3-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Ivan Schertzer: {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} / {a-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Robert Varkonyi: (XXX) / {3-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{j-Spades}

A pot in excess of 50,000 had formed by the time we got there, and Robert Varkonyi was all in. Some brief betting continued between Craig DiSavlo and Ivan Schertzer, and eventually the two of them chopped up the pot. The 2002 Main Event winner meanwhile was relegated to the rail.

Schertzer - 35,000
DiSalvo - 51,000

Juanda Chops One Up

John Juanda
John Juanda

John Juanda just chopped one with Lewis Lipsey, final hands of {10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{A-Spades}{K-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} and {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{8-Spades} respectively meaning Juanda took the high with a pair of snowmen, whilst Lipsey gathered the low with A-2-3-5-7. There chips stack, therefore, remain virtually the same from the dinner break.

Jett Knows What Levi is Up To

David Levi - having her on
David Levi - having her on

"Hey, is this table on the internet?"

Karina Jett, up on the feature table, was staring directly at us in the press box. We indicated that no, there is no live streaming this year.

"I knew it!" she cried at table neighbor David Levi, "I knew you were bull****ting me."
