Barch Bounced

Tex Barch
Tex Barch

You might've noticed a new name on top of the counts in Bryce Yockey. Another change on the chip counts page -- John "Tex" Barch has tumbled down to zero.

Barch had been at Yockey's table, and the evidence points to Yockey having perhaps been the recipient of the 80,000 or so Barch had during our last pass.

There are 59 left as we approach the end of Level 13.

Bichon Lets One Go, Gal Gathers Chips

WIth the board showing {J-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, Karl Gal bet the pot -- 15,000 -- and Thomas Bichon made the call. The river brought the {4-Spades}, and Gal pushed all in for his remaining 8,000. Big difference between the pot-size and the bet, but Bichon just couldn't make the call and let it go.

Bichon still has 82,000, and Gal is now up to 68,000.

T.J. Cloutier in Tournament of Champions

T.J. Cloutier
T.J. Cloutier

Although he is currently among the chip leaders in this tournament, it was revealed earlier today that T.J. Cloutier would be one of the participants in the Tournament of Champions.

For the past couple of months, fans have been able to vote for their favorite past bracelet winners to win one of twenty spots in the T.O.C. and the chance to compete for $1 million. Cloutier came in fifteenth place with 6,281 votes and will compete against the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, and Phil Ivey.

The T.O.C. doesn't kick-off until the 27th, so Cloutier will have plenty of time to try for a victory in today's event.

Vilandos Doubles Through Naujoks

The table folded around to 2009 EPT Dortmund winner Sandra Naujoks who raised to 4,500 from the button, and Pete Vilandos called from the big blind.

The flop came {9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. Vilandos checked, Naujoks bet 6,100, then Vilandos check-raised all in for about 25,000. Naujoks made the call.

Vilandos had {K-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts}. He'd flopped a set of nines. Meanwhile, Naujoks had {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{J-Spades}{8-Clubs} for the super-mecha-godzilla wrap draw. The turn was the {A-Clubs}, and Vilandos was still good. And the river was the {3-Spades}. Naujoks missed, and Vilandos survived.

Vilandos now has 50,000, while Naujoks slips to 40,000.

Cash Bubble Nears, Attrition Rate Slows

We went from 596 entrants to 102 yesterday during 10 hours of play. A little under one elimination per minute there.

During the first two hours of play today, we went from 102 to 63. That's a clip of about one elimination every three minutes.

Then, during Level 13 we only lost four players. That's one every 15 minutes. And we've stayed at that same rate here in Level 14, losing just two during the first half and hour.

Presently there are 57 players left, just three eliminations away from the money.

Two More Out, Hand-for-Hand Begins

We've had a couple more eliminations. William Durkee is out. So is Ashkan Razavi.

In Razavi's last hand, the table had folded around to Kevin Iacofano who raised to 6,000 from the small blind. Then Razavi reraised to 16,000 from the big blind. Iacofano reraised again enough to put Razavi all in, and Razavi called.

Iacofano {K-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{2-Clubs}
Razavi {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Clubs}

The board brought nothing but treys and tens -- {3-Spades}{10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{3-Hearts} -- and Iacofano's hand was best. He has 91,000 now, while Razavi is out.

With 55 players left, we are now one off the money. Hand-for-hand play at our remaining seven tables has commenced.
