Erica Schoenberg is teetering on the brink of Busto Canyon after her pocket kings fell short of Maris Smilga's on a X X board.
Left with just 850 chips, she moved in under the gun the very next hand and following a reshove from a player in mid position, the cards were on their backs.
Schoenberg:
Gentleman reshover:
Board: bink!
Schoenberg was pulled back from the edge, but on just 2,000 after the double up, she is still perilously close to the tournament abyss.
Pierre Neuville, down to 2,400 last we checked in with him, has had a rather good level or two. He is currently in possession of over 12,000 in chips, and is one of the larger stacks at his table.
Jimmy Fricke check-called a 1,000 bet from his opponent on the turn of an board; both players checked the river. The bettor confidently turned over , but made a little, "Tchhh," noise as if to say, "Just my luck," when Fricke turned over to take the pot.
Fricke is now a force to be reckoned with on over 20,000.
The players who have made it through four levels are heading out for their second scheduled break of the day. Smoke 'em if you got 'em, and can find the smoking area!
Most of the tables over in the Amazon have broken down now, and so very soon all of those still playing Day 1a of Event No. 3 will be together in the Pavilion. One big happy, extended family of hundreds and hundreds.
A few counts here at the start of Level 5:
Jimmy Fricke -- 11,500
Nam Le -- 3,500
Owen Crowe -- 8,500
Kara Scott -- 5,000
Erica Schoenberg -- 3,000
Joe Cada -- 5,500
Michael Carroll -- 4,000
Jonathan Little -- 8,500
Just before the break, Shannon Shorr saw a flop heads up with Jared Ingles. INgles bet out, and then called the raise to 1,350 from Shorr. Interesting.
The turn came down the and this time Ingles checked. Shorr bet 950, and Ingles now moved all in. Shorr snap called.
Ingles: for trips
Shorr: for an unbeatable-looking full house
Unbeatable? Nah.
River:
With some extremely lucky quads, Ingles doubled up to 9,500. Shorr meanwhile was in no immediate danger - he was left with a still very healthy 13,000.
Also just before the break, John Racener found himself all in in a great spot with pocket kings against an opponent's pocket queens. No more ladies appeared on the board, and Racener duly doubled to around 9,000.
Bernard Lee has been on the move since dropping down to 2,000 chips entering the fourth level of play. He was able to win a race with the versus pocket jacks after he flopped an ace. That doubled him back to 4,000 chips.
Then to start the next level, Lee picked up the in middle position and raised to 550. The big blind called and the flop came . The big blind moved all in and Lee made the call. He was ahead and in very good shape against his opponent's . The turn and river blanked off and Lee was pushed the pot. He's now got about 7,000 chips in his stack.
We reported Shannon Shorr was “healthy” recently, but after a big hand things rapidly took a turn for the worse for him. And how.
Some preflop back-and-forthing between Shorr and an opponent had already started the pot-building when the flop came . Shorr bet 675, and his opponent called. The turn was the , and this time Shorr bet 1,625. His opponent again was there with the call.
The river brought the and an all-in shove from Shorr. When his opponent called yet again, Shorr winced. “Aces?” he asked. His opponent wordlessly responded by showing his . Having been slightly covered, Shorr was eliminated and soon was making the long walk out of the Pavilion.
