In what was somewhat of surreal sight, neighbors (not opponents) Ashton Griffin and James Mackey were both on the receiving end of a simultaneous stare down.
Whilst Mackey was four-betting to 13,000 from the button, Ashton Griffin was three-betting to 7,100 from the big blind. Eventually both their opponents folded, and the two young guns took their respective pots.
In a hand from the previous level (blinds 300/600), Steve Gross opened with a raise to 1,300 from the button, and Carlos Mortensen shoved all in for his last 15,500. Gross made the call, turning over . Mortensen tabled .
The community cards came , and Mortensen survives. He's still well behind, though, as Gross has 89,000 to Mortensen's 31,000.
Sadly for my WSOP Fantasy team, Daniel Negreanu has been eliminated from today's heads-up event. On an flop, Negreanu check-raised Little's lead of 2,000 (into a 2,500 pot) to 7,800 with before calling all-in for his remaining chips.
Unfortunately for Kid Poker, Little had the goods, tabling for the overpair. But Negreanu remained upbeat in the face of defeat, adding, "Ooh, I have outs."
A jack/king-less turn and river later, however, and Negreanu was done and dusted, shaking his victor's hand and complimenting "good match" as he left.
Annette Obrestad has jumped out to a lead over Brock Parker, with 82,000 to his 38,000.
George "Jorj95" Lind III also has pushed out to an early advantage over Julian Herold, with 87,000 to Herold's 33,000.
And Barry Woods has Terrence Chan in dire straits here in the middle of our third level of play in Round 2. Woods has a commanding lead with 112,000 to Chan's 8,000.
Julian Herold has fought back after a poor start against George Lind. He just doubled through with versus , all in on the turn of a board. As a result, he takes a small 65,000 to 55,000 chip lead.
Robbie Verspui raised it up to 2,000 preflop and Eric 'E-Fro' Froehlich made the call. On a flop of , all the chips flew in, Verspui in commanding shape with versus an inferior . No five on the turn and river and a disappointed E-Fro was sent hurtling towards the rail.
