Montgomery Narrowly Escapes Elimination

Scott Montgomery started the day off with a double up but had slipped down to 123,000 when he moved all in once more while sitting the big blind. He got called by Daniel Carbonari who was nursing a stack over 400,000.

Montgomery: {k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Carbonari: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

Not only did Montgomery miss the flop, but Carbonari picked up a straight draw when it came {10-Clubs}{2-Spades}{j-Diamonds}. However, the {7-Clubs} on the turn gave Montgomery a pair and the {8-Clubs} on the river allowed it to hold.

Montgomery now has 258,000 while Carbonari has slipped to 320,000

Dietrich Sends Golodyaev Home

Eliminations are coming at a fast and furious pace today. Like many of our elimination hands today, all the chips were in the middle preflop with Alexey Golodyaev instigating things from middle position and Michael Dietrich calling from the big blind.

Dietrich: {k-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Golodyaev: {q-Spades}{j-Clubs}

Dietrich was ahead from the get-go and spiked top pair to boot with a flop of {k-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. The {a-Spades} on the turn and {6-Clubs} on the river didn't change a thing and Dietrich is up to 262,000 at the expense of Golodyaev.

Vitkind Heads Home Early

Dmitry Vitkind had raised to 23,000 in middle position with Charles Hatley calling from the button and Michael Dietrich coming along from the small blind with the big blind calling as well.

Vitkind bet 39,000 into the {k-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop with Hatley being the only caller. When the {4-Diamonds} came on the turn Vitkind went all in for 115,000 and Hatley made the call.

Vitkind: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Hatley: {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}

Vitkind wasn't able to improve when the {9-Spades} came on the river and he has been eliminated from play while Hatley has improved to 450,000.

Florestan Out-Turned, Out-Tournamented

We came to Richard Florestan with a flop of {9-Spades} {8-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} already on board. Timothy Beeman bet 27,000, with Florestan calling from the button to see the {4-Diamonds} hit the turn. Beeman then moved all in, putting Florestan to the decision for his whole stack.

"Will you show me if I fold?" Florestan asked.

"I'll show you if you call," replied Beeman.

Florestan did eventually make the call with {9-Hearts} {8-Hearts} for a flopped two pair, nines and eights. Beeman opened {4-Spades} {4-Hearts}, having turned a two-outer for a set of fours. The river {7-Clubs} ended Florestan's day.

Beeman is now near the top of the counts with 957,000.
