Spare Ear Plugs?

Those poor people on White 19. As if dealing with the chatter of Mike "the Mouth" Matusow wasn't enough, the player to Matusow's right busted and was replaced by none other than the "Poker Brat", Phil Hellmuth. We expect these two to be sniping back and forth at each other for the last hour of the night (Matusow has already started). They both have above-average chip stacks. Matusow has 26,000, and Hellmuth is even better with 36,000.

There's a New Sherrif in Town

Well, we finally found our hand with Barry Greenstein. Greenstein opened pre-flop from middle position for 1,800. He was called by the cutoff player and by Jeff Lisandro from the big blind. Lisandro checked a flop of {q-Hearts} {10-Spades} {6-Spades} to the Bear, who fired out a bet of two-thirds pot, 3,600. That was enough to fold the cutoff.

With action back to Lisandro, he announced a pot-sized raise. Greenstein then re-raised all in and Lisandro called for a massive pot.

Greenstein: {a-Spades}{3-Spades}{6-Clubs}{10-Hearts}, bottom two pair and the nut flush draw
Lisandro: {q-Spades}{5-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}, top pair and a bad flush draw

The turn came the {8-Clubs} to give each player a low draw and to give Lisandro an open-ended straight draw to go along with his top pair. He actually made a better two pair then tens and sixes with the {7-Spades} river, but that card gave Greenstein the nut flush and the better low. Lisandro is out, and Greenstein is now the leader with 77,500.

"It's not that bad," said Lisandro, looking back at that board and considering his decision to check-raise. "I hope he's got a set."

Later, after Lisandro left the table, one of the other players asked Greenstein, "Can you teach me how to do that?"

"Have people give you their chips?" Greenstein responded. "Just get old."

Van Dalsen Gets Nut Low Draw To Fold

Stephen Van Dalsen
Stephen Van Dalsen

After a player in middle position raised, Stephen Van Dalsen made the call from the hijack seat. The button and big blind also called.

The flop came down {9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and action checked to Van Dalsen. He fired 6,700 and all three of his opponents folded, even the preflop raiser who showed that he was laying down the {A-Hearts}{2-Hearts} from his hand for the nut low draw.

Van Dalsen moved up to 23,000 in chips.

Tight Fold for Fish

Darryll Fish

From middle position, Darryll Fish raised to 1,800. Ben Lamb made the call from the small blind and the two saw a flop of {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}. Lamb checked and Fish checked behind.

The turn brought the {J-Clubs} and Lamb fired out 2,800. Fish tanked for about two minutes and then eventually folded, showing that he was laying down the {J-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} from his hand. That's right, Fish folded two pair and a flush draw.

"I just have a feeling," Fish said.

Lamb showed that he had the {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}.

Lamb increased to 47,500 and Fish slipped back to 26,500.

Some Table Talk

Kathy Liebert hasn't had a great day. Although she remains in the tournament, she has been short-stacked for a while now only has 5,000 chips left.

"I bet you never knew poker could be so fun, Kathy," said a player at Liebert's table. Liebert responded that she was actually well-acquainted with how "fun" poker can be. Someone else then commented on the pace of eliminations since the dinner break.

"For me, it's not going fast enough," said Liebert. "I bet we all wish it would go faster." She glanced at the clock, which showed 225 players remaining. "Only 224 more to go."

Cantu Cruisin'

The defending champ, Brandon Cantu
The defending champ, Brandon Cantu

Brandon Cantu continues to cruise along here in his title defense of this event and is now up to 50,000 in chips after eliminating a player. Cantu and his opponent found all the money in preflop. Cantu held the {A-Spades}{{A-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs} against the short-stack player's {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}.

After the board ran out {7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{J-Spades}{K-Spades} it was a scoop for Cantu and the chips were slid his way.

Small Strides for the Bear

It seems that Barry Greenstein has been quietly chipping up all day. We've wandered by his table a few times, looking to catch the Bear in action, and have been unable to witness anything noteworthy. Recently he limped into a pot from under the gun and wound up in a three-way pot with Jeff Lisandro and the big blind. Lisandro took the pot down with a single bet on a flop of {j-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {3-Clubs}.

Greenstein currently has about 31,000 chips. Lisandro is just behind, with 29,500.

Devilfish Hurting

Dave "Devilfish" Ulliot is one of the lucky ones that's made it as far as Level 9, but he's hurting for chips. He raised the minimum from the big blind, to 1,200, after the small blind limped in. The small blind called to an all-heart flop of {9-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {k-Hearts} which both players checked. When the turn came {5-Spades}, the small blind's bet of 1,500 took down the pot.

Ulliot is down to 6,000 in chips.
