Hellmuth Back in Business

"Mikey! Mikey! I doubled with two fours!" an excited Phil Hellmuth told Mike Matusow after dragging a recent pot. Hellmuth was one of four players to limp into the pot and take a flop of {2-Diamonds} {k-Clubs} {3-Hearts}. Action checked all the way to the last player to act, Scott Buller. His bet of 9,000 was called by Alan Cutler before Hellmuth raised all in for 31,900 total. Buller folded by Cutler, who got the best of Hellmuth earlier, made the call.

Hellmuth: {a-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{6-Spades}, a pair of fours and the nut low draw
Cutler: {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}, ace-high and the nut low draw

The turn {3-Diamonds} and river {j-Spades} improved neither player. Hellmuth did indeed drag the whole pot with fours and treys to double up to 75,000. Cutler slid back to 77,000.

Gerin a Goner

Stephan Gerin raised from the button and then called all in after Stephen Tanner reraised from the big blind. Gerin held the {A-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and Tanner the {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {Q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{K-Spades}{J-Hearts} to give Tanner a straight and move him to 155,000 in chips while busting Gerin.

Hellmuth Hurting

Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth has been jawing with Ben Lamb but apparently he should have been watching out for Alan Cutler. Cutler checked a flop of {q-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {5-Clubs} to Hellmuth, who bet 6,000. Cutler called to the {4-Spades} turn. He checked again, and this time Hellmuth checked behind.

Both players also checked the {10-Spades} river. Cutler opened {q-Hearts}{j-Spades}{10-Hearts}{6-Spades} for two pair, queens and tens, to collect the pot. Hellmuth is down to 34,000.

Thomas Shows Matusow Nut-Nut

Amanda Thomas
Amanda Thomas

Mike Matusow limped from middle position before Mandy Thomas limped the button. Tony Cousineau was in the big blind and checked his option making for three-handed action to the flop. The flop came down {J-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades} and Cousineau checked. Matusow bet 4,800 and Thomas made the call. Cousineau ducked out of the way.

The turn brought the {2-Hearts} and made the board eligible for a low. Matusow and Thomas both checked.

The river completed the board with the {7-Clubs} and Matusow fired 6,000. Thomas jacked it up to 15,500 and Matusow made the call.

Thomas showed Matusow the {A-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds} for the nut low and the nut straight, also known as "Nut-nut, baby!" if Scotty Nguyen were here. Matusow mucked his hand and dropped to 38,300 in chips. Thomas moved up to over 140,000 in chips.

Hofman Chipping Up

Ronnie Hofman raised from the button to 5,000 and Karen Longfellow made the call from the big blind. After the flop came {J-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, Longfellow check-folded to a continuation bet from Hofman for 7,500. Scooping that pot added a few thousand chips to his stack and Hofman now sits on 72,500.

Team PokerStars Update

Barry Greenstein
Barry Greenstein

Jeffrey Baker checked the flop of {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} to Team PokerStars Pro Barry Greenstein. He fired a bet of 4,000 before Baker put in a check-raise to 16,000. The representative for Team Pro USA mucked his hand and dropped back to 114,000 in chips.

Greenstein is one of the two remaining Team PokerStars Pros left in the field. The other one is Team Online member Mandy Thomas, who is doing quite well on an adjacent table with around 120,000 in chips.
