Two of the biggest stacks in the room went to battle preflop. Gavin Smith held , and Mike Karangelovski raced him with pocket queens. The queens held, and Smith is suddenly on the rail while Karangelovski locked up the top of the leader board with 27,000.
Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron got his whole 3,200-chip stack in preflop with . He needed to connect with the board to survive against Corey Burbick's , but it fell an extremely unhelpful . Baron is out, and Burbick is working with 6,800 now.
Matt Vengrin got it all in preflop with suited, but it was no match for his opponent's pocket kings. But before he left, Vengrin pointed out his brother Jared, whom he's been teaching. Today is Jared's first event, and he's off to a good start. Whatever happens, at least he can brag about outlasting his brother.
From early position, Dominick Cantore raised to 325. Jonathan Little moved all in for another 1,650, and Cantore called him. It was off to the races with Little's against Cantore's . The board fell , and Cantore rivered a flush to bust Little. "At least I didn't waste the day," Little tweeted.
Andrew Chen and John "Razor" Phan were heads up with 2,025 already in the middle when the flop came out . Phan checked to Chen, who bet 325. The Razor bumped it to 700, and Chen called. After the fell on the turn, Phan bet 625, and Chen flatted. The river paired the board with the , and Phan bet 600. Chen moved all in for 2,175, and the Razor called. But he didn't have pocket threes, which is all that could beat Chen's for top boat. "I couldn't fold," Phan said. He's now stuck with 500, and Chen is up to 8,900.
Not to worry, PearlJammer fans. Jon Turner is back in his seat after the break. Bryan Devonshire, who called the floor over earlier for a ruling that resulted in a penalty for Turner that sent him away from the table in anger, reported that he talked things over with Turner and all is right with the world again.
