Event #42: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em

Day 2 Started

It's Day 2!

Welcome back to PokerNews' coverage of the 2010 World Series of Poker. If you were just clicking away on the home page, you've stumbled across Day 2 of Event #42: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em. Yesterday, 2,521 players took to the felt to compete for the coveted gold bracelet. Those players generated a prize pool of $604,222, so the 277 players that remained at the end of the night have that to look forward to as well. Yes, 277 players will come back today, but seven of them will leave this tournament empty handed, as the final 270 will make the money.

Leading the pack coming into the day is Jackson Zheng with 151,000. Humberto Brenes is right behind him with 146,400. Carter Phillips is looking to make history if he can outlast this field. He would become the youngest player to ever win two bracelets in the same year, but he does have his work cut out for him. He comes into the day with a stack of 122,100. And rounding out the top ten chip counts is Arnaud Mattern with 107,500.

Keep it locked here as we bring you all the action from the red section here in the Amazon Room. The cards will be in the air shortly.

Marafioti Chipping Up On The Bubble

The player in the small blind raised and Matt Marafioti defended his big blind. The flop came down {2-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} and the player in the small blind bet 8,000.

Marafioti deliberately counted out his stack and after about 90 seconds announced he was all in. He had a bit more than his opponent and after about another minute, the player in the small blind called all in for about 25,000.

Marafioti's {K-Spades}{J-Spades} led his opponent's {Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and held up safely as the {9-Diamonds} turn card and {5-Clubs} river card fell.

That hand boosted Marafioti's stack to about 65,000.

In The Tank

Jon Chartley came into today with the shortest stack with only 2,300 and was only three seats away from the big blind.

After folding the first hand, and now only two hands away from the big blind, Chartley went into the tank for over five minutes.

"I'm not trying to stall guys, this is a real decision" he uttered as he sat there with his hands in his head.

Eventually Chartley mustered up a fold and will obviously be hoping players around him can not display the same amount of patience!

Lucky Ramirez

Charlie Ramirez has survived the bubble!

After having more than half of his day two chip-stack in the big blind, Ramirez amazingly folded his hand only to find aces the very next one and double through.

Will this be the start of a huge comeback?

Hey! You're in the Money!

A player just ran into the Amazon Room, late for the start of this event. His seat was at the feature table right here in front of Media Row.

"What time did this start?" he said.

A player on the other end told him, "Hey, you're in the money. It's ok!"

Sharp Doubles

On a flop of {J-Spades}{4-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} Lary Sharp found himself all in against an opponent.

Sharp: {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}
Opponent: {10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

The turn and river landed the {3-Hearts} and {2-Clubs} to see Sharp double through to roughly 51,000 in chips.
