Hand-For-Hand Play Commences

With the elimination of John Racener in 26th place we are now on the money bubble. The next player eliminated will receive nothing but a story to tell while the remaining 24 players will have 21,997 reasons to smile.

We're now hand-for-hand across all tables until the bubble bursts!

Racener Out of Gas at the Finish Line

John Racener
John Racener

Stud-8

John Racener: (X-X) / {5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} / (X)
Robert Mizrachi: (X-X) / {4-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{8-Hearts} / (X)

Racener completed, and only Mizrachi called. He still wasn't too excited about his hand on fourth and check-called. He paired his jack on fifth and bet out. Racener called, then called another bet when he paired his nine on sixth. Mizrachi put in one last bet before showdown, and Racener went into the tank. Scotty Nguyen fell asleep at the table while Racener decided what to do. Eventually, John folded and Robert took the pot, chipping up to 370,000. They had to wake up Scotty to play the next hand.

Racener left himself short stacked with just 63,000. It only took him a few minutes to lose the rest and head for the exit. With his elimination, the field is only one from the money.

Cyndy Survives

Stud-8

Cyndy Violette has just doubled up to stay alive in this tournament. Her last chips were all in on fifth street against Ian Gordon.

Violette: ({A-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}) / {4-Spades}{A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades} / ({5-Diamonds})
Gordon: ({8-Clubs}{2-Hearts}) / {2-Spades}{4-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{5-Hearts} / ({K-Diamonds})

A pair of aces is enough for Violette to survive and double to 115,000.

Brunson Bests Barbieri

Razz

Todd Brunson completed the action and then lead the betting action on every street with Al Barbieri calling him down until the river where both players checked.

Brunson: ({8-}{3-}) / {2-}{9-}{J-}{4-} / ({Q-})
Barbieri: (X-X) / {A-}{K-}{7-}{A-} / (X)

Brunson's nine low is good enough to take it down as he moves up to 255,000. Barbieri slips to 170,000.

Glantz Gets Max Value

Omaha-8

Michael Chow raised from the cutoff, and Matt Glantz and Abe Mosseri both called out of the blinds. The flop came {q-Spades}{j-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, and Glantz led out. Mosseri raised, and Chow didn't need to think to much before getting out of the way. Glantz called to see the {10-Hearts} on the turn complete flush and straight draws. Glantz checked, and Mosseri checked behind. The river brought the {9-Clubs}, and Glantz put in one last bet. Mosseri called, and Glantz turned over {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{8-Spades} for a queen-high straight. "That's thin, that's real thin," Glantz said of his river bet as stacked his chips. Glantz moved up to 235,000, dropping Mosseri to 170,000.

Alioto Out

Stud

Dario Alioto and Scott Fischman were involved in a raising war on fifth street that saw the last of Alioto's chips into the middle. The boards ran out:

Alioto: ({Q-Spades}{3-Spades}) / {A-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} / ({J-Spades})
Fischman: ({7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}) / {8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} / ({7-Hearts})

Alioto showed two pair but Fischman made trip sevens to win the pot and eliminate Alioto painfully close to the money. Fischman is now up to 330,000.

Chip Leaders Clash

Stud

Our two chip leaders, Marco Johnson and Brian Townsend have clashed in a stud pot, with Townsend leading the betting on fourth and fifth streets, before Johnson took control on sixth. On the river, Townsend checked, Johnson bet and Townsend gave it up.

Johnson: (X-X) / {9-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} / (X)
Townsend: (X-X) / {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{K-Spades} / (X)

Johnson is at 500,000 with Townsend down to 395,000.

Meanwhile, Cyndy Violette is down to just 110,000 after losing a stud hand on a nearby table. Violette made queens up but Marco Traniello took it down with three jacks to move up to 325,000.

Duke Deposed

Annie Duke
Annie Duke

Razz

Annie Duke: (q-9) / {6-}{6-}{5-}{9-} / (X)
Roman Yitzhaki: (2-2) / {6-}{4-}{3-}{q-} / (X)

Annie Duke brought it in, and after Yitzhaki raised, she called all in with her last 8,000. She ended up stuck with a pair, and Yitzhaki picked up a seven on the end to make a seven-six. That was more than enough to win the pot and eliminate Duke a few spots short of the money.

Dehkharghani Done

Razz

Catching the action on fourth street, Ray Dehkharghani fired a bet with Marco Johnson making the call. Both players bricked fifth with Dehkharghani betting again before Johnson took the lead on sixth. By that point, Dehkharghani committed his last chips.

Johnson: ({7-}{6-}) / {2-}{10-}{K-}{8-} / {5-}
Dehkharghani: ({4-}{8-}) / {7-}{9-}{Q-}{Q-} / {K-}

Too many bricks for Dehkharghani sees him sent to the rail as Johnson is now up to 500,000 and the chip lead.
