Dwan Runs Into a Flush

Tom Dwan was in middle position and raised to 100. Only the big blind called and the two saw a flop of {Q-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. The big blind checked and Dwan bet 50.

After the big blind made the call, the turn came the {5-Hearts}. Both players checked to the {3-Hearts} on the river, at which point the big blind bet 100. Dwan thought about it, moved his hand forward as if to fold, then suddenly raised to 200.

The big blind didn't miss a lick reraising to 300 and Dwan simply made the call. The big blind turned over {A-Hearts}{8-Clubs} for the ace-high flush and Dwan mucked. Dwan is still sitting pretty with around 7,600.

Tough Tables

Since this is a shootout event, players will remain at their table until there is one winner. This makes table rosters especially interesting. Two tables with multiple notables are:

Table 264

Tom Schneider
Chino Rheem
Barry Shulman

Table 294

Mel Judah
Greg Mueller (defending champ)
Adam Schoenfeld

Run Better!

Chad "lilholdem954" Batista was heads up with an opponent at his table in a raised pot with the board reading {7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. Batista bet and his opponent called.

Both players checked the {5-Hearts} on the turn, but after the {k-Hearts} rivered Batista led for another bet. His opponent called and quickly mucked when Batista opened {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}.

"Run better!" a player at the table needled. "Too bad you couldn't get that in the $25,000."

Batista is another victim of Event #52, but he is off to a quick start here in Event #53!

More Notables

Tom Schneider, Chino Rheem, Barny Boatman, Bryan Devonshire, Jon Turner, Eric Froehlich, Mike Beasley, Tony Dunst, Michael Binger, Mel Judah, John Brock Parker, Eric Baldwin and Jennifer Harman have all been spotted in today's field.

I Wish I Were Kidding

Eric "basebaldy" Baldwin just sat down right in front of us at Table 298.

"You didn't play at noon today?" a player asked Baldwin referring to the $25,000 event.

"No I played," Baldwin responded. "I busted."

"You're kidding!" the man said ever so sincerely.

"I wish I were kidding," Baldwin smiled at him while sitting down with a beer in hand.

Nothing like a beer and some Limit Hold'em to cure the blues.

Tom "durrr" Dwan, Joe Sebok, Bryan Devonshire, Ylon Schwartz, Marco Traniello, Bryan Micon, Matt Hawrilenko, Barny Boatman, Jeff Madsen, Keven "stammdogg" Stammen and our returning champion in this event Greg "FBT" Mueller are all here for some min-raising action!

Day 1 About to Begin

Day 1 of Event #53: $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout is set to begin in a little over an hour. The size of the field, and who will enter, is anyone's guess given that the $25,000 Six Handed event is occurring simultaneously. The good news though, that event is currently being held in the Orange Section of the Amazon Room, which is right next door to the Blue Section where this tournament will take place. This means we will probably see players double dipping in both tournaments.

Last year, this event attracted 571 players and was won by none other than Greg Mueller, who took home $194,854 for his first-place finish. We should know early on how many players enter this year's event, and the subsequent prizepool that is created, since there is no late registration for this tournament.

Already a number of notable poker players have announced their intentions to play via various social networking outlets. Tony Dunst, Andy Bloch and Jason Potter are just a sampling of those who're planning to play. Who will take their shot to win a gold bracelet in the last limit event of the 2010 World Series of Poker? Join us at 5 PM local time as PokerNews brings you all the hand updates, chip counts and action from the $1,500 Limit Shootout!
