Hand #155: Michael Mizrachi

Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

Joseph Cheong has the button in Seat 2.

John Racener makes it 2.3 million from first position. Action folds to Michael Mizrachi in the big blind, who calls the raise.

The flop is {4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{k-Clubs}. After a check from Mizrachi, Racener continues for 2.8 million. Mizrachi calls to a {6-Diamonds} turn, then checks once again. Racener, still smacking that gum, makes a slow check.

The river pairs the board, {9-Diamonds}. Mizrachi fires a bet of 5 million into the pot, a bit less than half the pot. It's a bet that puts Racener into the tank. He smacks his gum and riffles some chips with his right hand for about a minute and a half before folding.

Those chips don't get Mizrachi all the way back to where he was, but they're a start.

Hand #152: John Racener

Michael Mizrachi has the button in Seat 5.

Joseph Cheong is under the gun and opens for a minimum raise to 2 million. Small blind John Racener is the only caller.

Both players check a flop o {9-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. The turn {j-Diamonds} brings another check from Racener and a bet of 2.5 million from Cheong. Racener calls.

The river {8-Clubs} gives the board a touch of connectivity. Racener cuts some chips out of his stack and pushes them into the middle of the table. It's a bet of 6 million. Cheong folds.

Hand #150: Jonathan Duhamel Doubles Back Through Michael Mizrachi

Jonathan Duhamel
Jonathan Duhamel

Joseph Cheong has the button in Seat 2.

Jonathan Duhamel raises to 2.5 million from the small blind. Michael Mizrachi makes a reraise from the big blind for all of his chips. Duhamel makes the call for his last 27.25 million total.

Mizrachi: {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}
Duhamel: {A-Spades}{9-Hearts}

Everyone jumps to their feet as the flop comes down {K-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. Mizrachi's fan section is dead silent while Duhamel's roars. Duhamel is the player at risk.

The turn brings the {9-Clubs} and Duhamel's fans erupt as if he has already won, but Mizrachi can still hit a three.

The river completes the board with the {J-Hearts} and the Montreal Canadian jerseys enthrall Duhamel as he doubles up.

Hand #149: Racener Doubles Again

John Racener
John Racener

Filippo Candio has the button in Seat 8.

John Racener opens to 2.2 million. Action folds around to Jonathan Duhamel in the big blind. He re-raises all in, bringing Duhamel's rail (directly in front of our desk) to their feet.

It will take all of Racener's chips to call. After a minute, he does indeed call!

Showdown
Racener: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}
Duhamel: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

Racener was relucant to put his chips in the middle and can't be happy to see Duhamel's Big Slick. But the {q-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop turns everything around. It pairs Racener's kicker and now he is the dominating favorite over Duhamel.

The turn is more paint, the {j-Diamonds}. It gives Duhamel a few additional outs to come from behind and knock Racener out of the tournament.

There is a long pause before the river. With Racener leaning over the table, tense with anticipation, the dealer burns and turns a harmless {3-Clubs}. For the second time in 11 hands, John Racener doubles up. His 16,950,000 becomes more than 34 million after Duhamel pays him off. Duhamel is down to about 26 million.
