Paredes' Set of Fives Eliminates Juanda

Level 7 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

John Juanda made a preflop raise and was smooth called by David Paredes. The flop came {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} and Paredes led out for 15,000 chips, only to see Juanda check-raise to 40,000. Paredes pushed his stack into the middle and Juanda called, revealing the {Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades} for top pair and a strong kicker. Paredes was far ahead, however, with {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and when the turn and river came {10-Spades},{10-Clubs}, his set was a winner. Paredes is now in the Round of 16 and has earned at least $67,436 for his efforts.
