Veldhuis on Late Entries

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

Lex Veldhuis, looking around at his fairly tough starting table, had this to say about buying in late to a tournament, "Given that you have to sit with other late entries, I think it's actually better to buy in, be blinded off a little and turn up an hour late than it is to simply buy in later..."

Late Arrivals

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

A beardless Andy Black has just arrived on the Lex Veldhuis/Men Nguyen table while so far the Mizrachi brother count playing today is at two. Both Michael and Robert have both sat down as the play count moves up to 911.

It looks as though we've lost one notable player so far, Frenchman Fabrice Soulier is nowhere to be found, it looks as though Daniel Negreanu has at least some of those, the Team PokerStars Pro is around the 7,000 mark.

ZeeJustin Chipping Up

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

Six players saw a flop of {Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs} where a player bet 100. Justin Bonomo and two other players called. On the {K-Diamonds} turn, the action was the exact same as the flop bettor led out and once again received three callers. On the {6-Hearts} river however, the aggressor held up this time and checked. Now it was Bonomo's turn to take the lead as he bet 200 and was called by one of the other players.

Bonomo showed {J-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and his flush was good for the high. His opponent turned over {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Bonomo got half of the low as well. He was back up to 4,700 after the hand.

Dempsey Denied

James Dempsey
James Dempsey

James Dempsey, who last year won a bracelet in Pot-limit Hold'em before finishing second in the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Low event to Sammy Farha, has been finding it difficult so far to day. After three limpers, he raised in the small blind and got called by all three as well as the big blind who came along for the ride.

Dempsey bet the {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}{4-Hearts} and the big blind raised, everyone else folded and the British player made the call to see the {2-Diamonds}, Check-bet-call was the order of the day and the dealer put out the {K-Diamonds} on the river, Dempsey checked a third time but this time folded when face with another 200 chip bet.

He's dropped to 2,425

Turner Prize

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

A 200 bet on the river of a {8-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} was followed by a call before Jon Turner raised to 400 which both players called.

"Nut-nut," said Turner, showing {A-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for exactly that, the initial raiser flipped {A-Spades}{3-Hearts}{6-Spades}{7-Hearts} for the nut low while the third player mucked.

Three-quarters to Turner it is.

Swing and a Miss for "Basebaldy"

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

No-Limit tournament specialist and WSOP bracelet winner Eric Baldwin just lost a big pot at his table.

Baldwin in late position raised to 200 pre-flop with a call from the player in the cutoff. The player on the button raised to 300 and both players called.

The flop came {8-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{10-Spades}. Baldwin bet 100 and the button called.

The turn was the {J-Hearts}, Baldwin bet 200, was raised by the button to 400, and then called.

The river came the {Q-Clubs} to eliminate the possibility of a low and put the possible club flush out there. Baldwin checked, the button bet 200, Baldwin put in another bet for the check-raise but was then raised again by the button. Baldwin tanked for a minute and painfully made the call for a total of 600.

The player on the button flipped over {A-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} for the rivered nut-flush.

Baldwin shook his head and said, "Wow... that's a pretty hand" as he mucked and got knocked down to around 3,500
