Sprinting Clements Gets a Bonus

Scott Clements was dashing back to his seat in the big blind just as the third card was being dealt to him, the cutoff and small blind both limped in and Clements raised to 800 but neither player folded.

The small blind checked, Clements fired out 400 on the {J-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Spades} flop, the cutoff raised to 800 and the small blind cold-called only for Clements to make it three bets, again being called by both players. Clements continued with bets on the {3-Diamonds} turn and {5-Hearts} river, called both times

Clements: {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{3-Hearts}
Cutoff: {A-}{K-}{J-}{2-}
Small Blind: Flashed {J-}{10-} before mucking.

A scoop for Clements who must have been glad not to miss that hand, he's up to 33,500.

Tough Table Just Got Tougher

Level 7 : 200/400, 0 ante

Today's field, although the biggest Omaha 8 or better tournament field in the history of poker, is riddled with big names. It is more likely to find a table with two or more known names than it is one without one. But one table in particular has become especially difficult.

We just reported on a hand that featured Vitaly Lunkin and Alex Kravchenko. However, Mike Matusow, a bracelet winner in Limit Omaha 8 or better in 2002, is seated between the two players. But the star power didn't stop there. Chau Giang, another previous Omaha 8 or better champion, just sat down with a healthy stack at the very same table. Allen Kessler, who was sitting at a nearby table, commented on how tough the table must be. Matusow quipped "That's probably why I still have chips left. If the table was a buncha idiots, I'd be gone."

Lunkin vs Kravchenko

Level 7 : 200/400, 0 ante

From second position, Vitaly Lunkin raised to 800 and found calls from two players in middle position as well as Alex Kravchenko in the big blind.

The flop came {8-Spades}{4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}. Kravchenko checked to Lunkin who bet 400. The two other players in the hand folded leaving Kravchenko left to make the call and see a turn heads up.

Kravchenko check called Lunkin's bet when the turn was the {3-Spades} and checked called the river when it came the {10-Spades}. Lunkin flipped over {A-Hearts}{q-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Diamonds} for the nut low and the Queen high flush, good enough to scoop the pot.

Lunkin has risen to 14,500 while Kravchenko has fallen to 6,600.

Jungblut Eliminated Just Before Dinner Break

Level 6 : 150/300, 0 ante

Brett Jungblut nursed a short stack for much of the past few hours, but he has finally run out of steam. We caught the action as Jungblut had committed 600 of his remaining 900 in preflop and got five callers. The players took a flop of {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and Jungblut committed his last 300 chips and got two callers. The turn and river were the {10-Spades} and the {j-Clubs}, and one opponent showed {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for a turned full house. Jungblut showed {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, and headed for the exit.

Waxman Speaks Too Soon

Matt Waxman turned to our reporter and said, "I got 16K, write it down!" but then he went on to lose the very next hand and get knocked back to under 14,000. Our guess is he simply spoke too soon.

The under-the-gun player raised and Waxman called from the very next seat. Action moved all the way around to the small blind and he called before Jeff Shulman folded from the big blind despite getting a decent price. The three players in the hand saw the flop come down {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and the small blind checked. The preflop raiser bet, Waxman called and then the small blind check-raised for another bet. Both the original raiser and Waxman called.

The {3-Diamonds} was added on fourth street and brought in a third diamond. The small blind bet and both his opponents called. The river completed the board with the {8-Clubs}. The small blind bet and the next player called before Waxman also stuck in the chips. The small blind tabled the {A-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} for nut-nut and scooped the pot.

Bronshtein Chops

John Phan and one player checked the flop of {A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{7-Spades} before the third player bet. Yuval Bronshtein raised, Phan and the second player folded, but then the original bettor came back with a reraise. Bronshtein called.

The turn added the {7-Clubs} to the board and paired it up. Bronshtein called a bet from his opponent.

The river card completed the board with the {3-Hearts} and Bronshtein called another bet from his opponent. First, the player opened the {A-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Spades} for aces and nines. Bronshtein tabled the {8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{3-Clubs} to win the low and chop the pot.
