Brooks Going Downhill

Having started the day with the chip lead, Gregory Brooks is slowly succumbing to the swings of Pot Limit Omaha and as a result has moved below 700,000 in chips.

Earlier, David Chiu raised from the button and Brooks called from the small blind to go heads-up to the flop of {2-Hearts}{4-Spades}{8-Spades}, which they both checked before Brooks led out for 61,000 on the turn of the {5-Diamonds}. Chiu folded and Brooks picked up the pot.

A full orbit later, Mericer came out with a raise from under the gun; again, Brooks called from the small blind before leading out for 52,000 on the flop of {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Mercier called, then Brooks opened for 88,000 on the turn of the {6-Diamonds}.

However, Brooks laid his hand down after Mercier returned fire with a raise of 208,000. Mercier is now up to more than 1.25 million after that hand.

Big Bet by Merrifield

Steven Merrifield raised to 33,000 under the gun and was called by Hans Winzeler in the big blind. Merrifield proceeded to check-call bets of 41,000 on the {3-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop, and 57,000 on the {6-Hearts} turn. When the {A-Spades} spiked on the river, Merrifield counted out big bet and slide forward 190,000.

Winzeler immediately stood from his chair and took his hat off. He clearly wasn't happy about being put to the test. Merrifield remainined still as Winzeler counted out his chips, stacked them up, and pondered the hand. Eventually he laid it down as Merrifield silently slid his cards to the dealer.

Robert Fellner Eliminated in 9th Place ($39,413)

Robert Fellner
Robert Fellner

Steven Merrifield and Robert Fellner got it all in preflop. Fellner showed {j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and Merrifield showed {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}{9-Spades}{9-Hearts}.

The board ran out {3-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{j-Spades} and Fellner hit the rail in ninth place moving Merrifield up to 1,500,000 after the hand.

We are only one away from combining to make our unofficial final table of seven players so it should be happening pretty soon.

Robert Fellner just called from the button and Jared Bleznick put his last 26,000 in the pot in the small blind. Hans Winzeler called and Fellner did as well.

The board ran out {3-Spades}{10-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts} with Fellner and Winzeler checking it down the whole way.

In the end, Bleznick showed {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{5-Spades} for a pair of jacks, but Winzeler had {2-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{6-Spades} for two pair and the knockout. Bleznick is out in 10th and Winzeler is up to 650,000 after the hand.

McDonald Doubles; Bleznick Crippled

Michael "Timex" McDonald raised to 36,000 from the cutoff and was called by Steven Merrifield on the button. When action was on Jared Belznick in the big blind, he potted to 152,000, McDonald called, while Merrifield got out of the way.

The rest of McDonald's money got in on the {3-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{K-Spades} flop, meaning his tournament was at risk.

McDonald: {Q-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Bleznick: {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades}

The {8-Spades} turn didn't change much, but the {10-Hearts} river gave McDonald a flush and the double, severly crippling Bleznick in the process.
