Negreanu and Binger Spitting Words

Level 13
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Hold'em

A big controversy has just developed in front of the PokerNews blogging desk between Daniel Negreanu, Michael Binger and the floor staff.

The action started with a preflop raise to 6,000 only to have Michael Binger three-bet to 9,000 next to act. The blinds passed and the preflop raiser made the call before checking the {K-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop. Binger tossed out a bet of 1,500 only to have his opponent insta-raise to 3,000.

This is where the problem started.

With the limits at 3,000-6,000, Binger's bet was half the amount it should have been, and with his opponent splashing out what seemed like a raise, Tournament Director Robbie Thompson was called over to solve the dispute.

Negreanu and Binger began disputing what action should occur. Negreanu's argument was that it was the check-raisers intention to raise and therefore should be bound to a raise of 6,000 once Binger completed the full bet amount.

As Negreanu and Binger's debate became more heated, Binger spat out, "Shut your god-damn mouth! It's my tournament life that is on the line" as Negreanu argued that it could be an angle shoot betting half-bets as you could see what the intention of the other player was.

It was there that Negreanu went back into his shell as he let Thompson rule that Binger's half-bet would be made a full bet and the intention to raise would be deemed to be just a call.

"You have to throw a god-damn scene don't you!" added Binger who was a little enraged that Negreanu was getting involved in a hand that really didn't involve him.

As the dealer dealt the {5-Clubs} on the turn, Binger's opponent bet out 6,000 and Binger went into the tank for over four minutes as he had just 18,000 in chips remaining.

"I wanna know what's going to happen when the hand is over?" asked Binger to Thompson.

"If I've gotta take a penalty and blind out, it is going to change the whole hand." continued Binger.

"There will be no penalty, just a warning" answered Thompson.

Another minute went by before Binger angled his cards at the muck.

"I'm sorry!" stated Negreanu to Binger as both players shook hands.

"It was just clear cut to me!" returned Binger.

"Wasn't clean to me" jibbed Negreanu.

"Are we good here?" asked Thompson as both players nodded.

"Just throw them out to be safe!" arked one player on the table.

Filippi Flipped Back to Break

Level 13

Razz

Amnon Filippi got his last chips in against John Monnette in a big razz pot. By the time we got there, the cards were out of order, but Filippi had made a {j-}{10-}{5-}{4-}{3-}. It was no good against a {10-}{7-}{5-}{3-}{2-}. Filippi is back out the door almost as soon as he returned from break, and Monnette is up to 145,000.

Dustin Leary: (X)(X) / {K-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{K-Spades} / (X)

Dustin Leary bet fourth street and Doyle Brunson made the call. On fifth street, Leary bet and Brunson raised. Leary made the call. On sixth street, Leary check-called a bet from Brunson before he did the same on seventh.

Leary mucked when he saw Brunson turn over {6-}{4-}{4-} for a full house and lost the pot.

The Chips are in (front of) the O'Dell

Level 12

Stud

Mikhail Savinov: (X)(X) / {8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{q-Spades}{5-Hearts} / (X)
Frankie O'Dell: (X)(X) / {2-Spades}{6-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{5-Spades} / (X)
David Oppenheim: (X)(X) / {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{j-Hearts} / (X)
Kevin Iacofano: (X)(X) / {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{4-Spades} / (X)

This giant stud pot started with Mikhail Savinov making it four bets for four players to see a fourth card. Savinov made it three bets on fourth to put himself all in, leaving the remaining action to the other three. David Oppenheim bet fifth, and both Kevin Iacofano and Frankie O'Dell called. Repeat on sixth with Oppenheim showing jacks on board. Oppie checked the river, Iacofano followed suit, and then O'Dell checked his seventh card. He bet, and Oppenheim rocked back in his chair in disgust. He couldn't get away from it in a pot this big and threw in an unhappy call. Iacofano folded, and O'Dell showed {a-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Spades} for an ace-high flush to take the monster pot.

"Did you have kings?" Oppenheim asked Savinov as he was preparing to leave. Savinov showed {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and had indeed started with kings in the hole and improved to kings up. Oppenheim showed that he'd had buried queens and made queens and jacks, putting him in third place for the main pot and second for the side. But all the chips go to first place in this game, and Frankie O'Dell is now up to 124,000. Oppenheim was knocked back to a still healthy 120,000. Savinov hit the rail, and Iacofano followed him out a few hands later.
