Scotty Chips Up, Then Chips Down

Level 11

Stud

Scotty Nguyen has just found a double when his {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} / {Q-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{10-Clubs} / {Q-Hearts} held true against his opponent's {K-}{K-} / {10-Hearts}{6-}{4-}{4-} / {7-}.

As Nguyen moved to 27,000, he then proceeded to lose the next hand to Doyle Brunson.

Nguyen: (X)(X) / {2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{4-Spades} / (X)
Brunson: (X)(X) / {J-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{4-Hearts} / (X)

Brunson tabled his {K-}{K-} in the hole to prompt a muck from Nguyen as one World Champion slid to 12,000 as the other rose to 73,000 in chips.

Hansen Plays it Safe

Level 11

Stud-8

Thor Hansen: (X)(X) / {3-Hearts}{4-Spades}{8-Spades}{2-Spades} / (X)
Michael Binger: (X)(X) / {7-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} / (X)

Michael Binger checked seventh, and Thor Hansen was about to bet but changed his mind and checked behind. Hansen started with {5-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and caught the {5-Spades} to make fives up and an eight-five low. That was good enough to scoop Binger's {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}, which never turned into more than a pair of sixes and a losing low.

Hansen's scoop put him up to 38,000, leaving Binger with around 70,000. "Let me know the next time you have that big a hand," Binger told him. "Never raised, never nothing."

No Chop Fuey

Level 11

Stud-8

Fu Wong: (X)(X) / {5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{5-Hearts} / (X)
Tommy Hang: (X)(X) / {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{8-Spades} / (X)
Erik Sagstrom: (X)(X) / {4-Spades}{10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{7-Spades} / (X)

Fu Wong bet on sixth when he paired his five. Tommy Hang folded, and Erik Sagstrom called. Wong and bet again after getting a seventh card, and Sagstrom called, hoping for the high half of the big pot. Wong showed an {8-} for two pair, and Sagstrom couldn't beat it. Neither made a low, and all the chips were shipped to Wong. He's up to 108,000 now. Sagstrom sill has a field-leading 160,000, and Hang is hanging in there with 37,000.

Appleman and Greenstein Gone

Barry Greenstein hits the rail with Mickey Appleman
Barry Greenstein hits the rail with Mickey Appleman

Stud-8

With Barry Greenstein all in on third street and Mickey Appleman all in on fifth, the two active players - Sergey Rybachenko and Tom Dwan - played out the pot.

Greenstein: (X)(X) / {3-Hearts}{9-Spades}{K-Spades}{6-Spades} / (X)
Appleman: (X)(X) / {4-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{3-Spades} / (X)
Dwan: (X)(X) / {8-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} / (X)
Rybachenko: (X)(X) / {4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{5-Clubs} / (X)

Greenstein would reveal an ace-high flush, but when Dwan tabled his {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} in the hole for quads, and Rybachenko his wheel, both Greenstein and Appleman were forced to the rail.
