Ho Increases

Staying aggressive in poker isn't just for men, as Maria Ho shows in the following hand.

After a player limped from under the gun and James Akenhead limped from the next seat, action folded to Ho on the button. She raised to 1,900. The big blind called, as did the first limper. Akenhead got out of the way.

The flop came down {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and action checked around to Ho. She stayed on the gas and bet 2,800. Both of her opponents folded and she collected the pot.

Lee Picks Up Aces

Oh, hello after-dinner-break rush. Meet Bernard Lee.

Lee has done well since the return to play with increasing his stack. Just recently, he opened to 1,100 and got one caller. After the flop of {A-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}, Lee continued with a bet of 1,500. His opponent folded and Lee showed the {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs} for top set.

Akenhead Getting Shorter

Winner of he 2001 World Series of Poker Main Event Carlos Mortensen raised from early position to 1,000. The hijack seat flatted and then 2009 November Niner James Akenhead three-bet frm the button to 3,350. After the blinds folded, Mortensen and the hijack seat both called.

The three players saw the flop come {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} with Mortensen up first. He led out with a bet of 3,350. The hijack seat folded, but Akenhead made the call, leaving himself with a little under 10,000 in chips.

After the {3-Diamonds} fell on the turn, Mortensen almost immediately tossed out 10,000 in order to put Akenhead all in. Akenhead thought about it for few minutes, but then gave it up.

Matusow's Head in the Game (Just Not Poker)

Level 7 : 200/400, 50 ante

Mike "The Mouth" Matusow has been much more interested in the outcome of the Dallas-Miami game...frequently checking his phone for updates and asking passers-by for updates. He event went as far as to ask everyone to get up and leave the table simultaneously so the dealer would not deal to anyone, effectively pausing the game. A few players objected, however, and play resumes.

Matusow's stack is currently sitting at 13,200.

Cassidy's Straight

From early position, Joe Cassidy raised to 1,000. He got a call from a player in middle position, the small blind and then Jordan Smith in the big blind. The four of them took a flop of {10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Clubs} and action checked around before the dealer placed the {7-Spades} out on the turn. The small blind checked and Smith bet 2,400. Cassidy made the call while the other two players folded.

The river was the {8-Spades} and completed the board. Smith opted to check. Cassidy looked at the board, then down at his stack and then fired 4,500. Smith thought it over for a minute and then made the call. Cassidy rolled over the {J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a jack-high straight. Smith couldn't beat it and mucked his hand.

Nanonoko Hanging in There

Level 7 : 200/400, 50 ante

Randy "nanonoko" Lew has been unable to get any momentum going so far, instead hovering around his starting stack of 15,000.

In a recent pot, Lew raised from early position and got one caller from the big blind. The flop ran out {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and the player in the big blind check-called nanonoko's bet of 1,500.

The turn brought a {J-Diamonds} and this time the big blind player check-folded a 3,000 bet from Lew, who has chipped up to 14,500.
