Set of Treys Pays for Shaniac

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

A player in middle position opened for 500 (a 2.5x raise), and Shane "Shaniac" Schleger called from the small blind. Schleger is looking to improve on his deep run in Event No. 40, the $5,000 NLHE 6-max. event where he finished 17th.

The flop came {8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{9-Diamonds}, and both players checked. The turn was the {2-Spades} and Schleger checked once more. His opponent fired 700, and Schleger called.

The river was the {3-Hearts}. Schleger checked again, and his opponent tossed out a bet of 1,850. Without hesitation, Schleger grabbed some chips and set them in front. His opponent leaned forward and squinted. "Forty-eight fifty," said Schleger, indicating the amount of the raise.

Taking just a few seconds more, his opponent put out 3,000 more to call. "Set," said Schleger, flipping over his {3-Spades}{3-Clubs}. His opponent revolved his cards in his hand -- showing a face card (which suggested an overpair) -- and tossed his hand in the muck.

Schleger is sitting with about 38,000 at present.
