End of Day of the Event #47: $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi-Low-8 or Better

Level 18
Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

Play has now finished today in the Mixed Split event with 22 players remaining from the initial 201 that started today's event. The familiar sight of Michael Mizrachi leads the way with 407,000 chips after a late surge saw him shoot up to the top of the tree as the blinds increased to quite a hefty amount. Day 1 leader Abe Mosseri is in second place with 303,000, a decent way behind.

Mizrachi will be joined by a tough looking field that includes Barry Greenstein, Richard Ashby and Scotty Nguyen, all of whom will be looking to add another bracelet to their collection. However on the last hand we lost Ben Yu meaning we'll only have three tables of seven players.

A lot of top names were still in when the tournament restarted today including Mike Sexton, Galen Hall, Pat Pezzin, Shaun Deeb, Mike Matusow and Tom Dwan but all failed to cash. Michael Binger, Stuart Rutter, Jerry Buss and Josh Arieh fared better, more than doubling their money but none of them made it through to Day 3.

Play will restart tomorrow at 3pm and PokerNews will be following all the action from then, we'll see you then!

Yu Gone

Level 18

Just before the bagging begins, Ben Yu has been eliminated in 22nd place, leaving 21 players to return for Day 3.

Mariakis, Ankenman Out

Level 18

Omaha 8

We've had a couple of eliminations since the redraw. Michael Mariakis went out in 24th soon after finding his new seat. And Jerrod Ankenman has been eliminated in 23rd.

In Ankenman's elimination hand, he was all in on the turn against Gerard Rechnitzer with the board showing {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Ankenman held {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and Rechnitzer {J-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}. The river was the {7-Diamonds}, leaving Rechnitzer with a flush for the high and a better low, and Ankenman hit the rail.

Jerry Buss

Omaha 8

Jerry Buss has been eliminated in three-way Omaha 8 hand involving both Michael Mizrachi and Scotty Nguyen. By the river none could top Mizrachi's king-high straight to scoop, and the L.A. Lakers owner hits the rail in 25th place.

A brief pause now while they redraw for the final three eight-handed tables.

Ashton Scoops

Level 18

Stud 8

Matthew Ashton just scooped a big pot, he had a board {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} which was checked around against Kevin Iacofano's {J-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} board and Gerard Rechnitzer's {6-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{9-Spades} board. All three checked seventh and Ashton showed {8-}{A-}{K-} for trips, the other two players mucked and Ashton was happy but a little surprised to be taking the entire pot.

Losing the P(l)ot

Jason Potter
Jason Potter

Jason Potter was just knocked out when he was all in for his last few chips during Stud 8 against Michael Mizrachi. Potter could only make a pair of threes but was actually ahead until seventh when Mizrachi plucked out a gutterball queen to make an ace-high straight to scoop the entire pot.

Paul Honas has also been eliminated.
