Schwartz Unofficial Leader After Day 1

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Ylon Schwartz - Unofficial Chip Leader
Ylon Schwartz - Unofficial Chip Leader

After eight levels of play in Event #5, a little over 100 runners remain, and Ylon Schwartz is your unofficial chip leader with 46,000 chips.

After four hours of late registration, the official number of entrants for this $1,500 Seven Card Stud event was 357 runners – 51 short of last year’s number. The prizepool totaled at $481,950, and the winner will receive $122,909 and a shiny gold WSOP bracelet. Alongside Schwartz, some of the end of the day leaders include Shaun Deeb (33,300), Andy Bloch (31,500), Chad Brown (25,000), Tom “durrrr” Dwan (23,000) and Eli Elezra (21,000).

Schwartz stumbled out of the gate only to make a strong comeback. He scooped a massive, multi-way pot against Eli Elezra and a third opponent to vault himself to the top of the leader board towards the end of the night. Dwan also started off slow, falling to 3,200 during Level 5, but scooped a few pots and emerged as one of our chip leaders. He then lost a big pot to Bloch though, wherein Bloch made a winning flush on seventh street.

Some of the notables who were unable to survive day one include Freddie Ellis, Daniel Negreanu, Steve Billirakis, Sorel Mizzi, “Miami” John Cernuto and Bryan “The Icon” Micon.

Join us tomorrow at 3 p.m. PST for the restart of this event. We will play ten more levels, stopping only if a final table is reached. Stay tuned to PokerNews.com for all of exclusive live-reporting updates for this and every event at the 2011 World Series of Poker. Good night!

Seiver Doubles

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Scott Seiver put his last 400 chips into a 7,000+ chip pot going to seventh street holding two pair, Fives and Dueces but was drawing slip against the Nines and Threes of his opponent.

Seiver apparently doesn't like to peel cards like much of today's field. He flipped it over while it was still coming towards him and it worked. He boated up with a deuce and his opponent bricked. He is now up to 8,400.

Eli Shows Ylon Respect

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Opponent 1: (x)(x) / {4-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{5-Clubs} FOLDED
Schwartz: (x)(x) / {2-Spades}{a-Spades}{2-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} / (x)
Elezra: (x)(x) / {9-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} /(x) FOLDED

We caught the action on fourth street with Ylon Schwartz and Eli Elezra calling their opponent's bet. Elezra led out on fifth when he paired his nine, and Schwartz was the only caller. It was Schwartz's turn to bet on sixth when he made two pair, and then bet out again on seventh street. Elezra went into the tank for a couple of minutes before flashing the {9-Spades} and folding. Schwartz didn't show his hand, and took in the pot to increase his stack to 24,500 while Elezra drops to 22,000.

Bloch Balloons, Dwan Dips

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Andy Bloch is among the chip leaders
Andy Bloch is among the chip leaders

Andy Bloch - (x) (x) / {8-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} / (x)
David Singer - (x) (x) / {5-Spades}{3-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{k-Clubs} / (x)
Tom "durrrr" Dwan - (x) (x) / {j-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{a-Diamonds} / (x)

We caught up with the action on fifth street, where Dwan bet, Bloch raised, Singer cold-called two bets, and Dwan also called. Dwan slowed down on sixth, checking to Bloch who bet. Both Singer and Dwan called.

Dwan checked again on seventh, Bloch bet, and only Dwan called. Bloch tabled {j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for a flush, and Dwan unhappily mucked the losing hand.

Bloch's stack ballooned to 31,000 chips, while Dwan dropped to 17,000.

Arieh Knocks One Out

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Opponent 1: {X-}{X-}/{A-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{3-Spades}/{X-}
Arieh: {X-}{X-}/{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}/{X-}
Opponent 2: {X-}{X-}/{K-Clubs}{{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Spades}/{X-}

Opponent 1 had just 1,300 to start the hand and opened with a raise to 500. Arieh made it two bets, Opponent 2 made it three bets and both players called (Opponent 1 for all of his chips).

Fourth street was checked twice before Arieh check called his opponents bet on fifth. Sixth street paired Arieh's door card ten and he led out. His opponent called. Arieh led out again on seventh but Opponent 1 folded.

"Jacks and Tens," Arieh announced. The all in player showed an Ace and got up and left the room. Arieh now has 20,000. Also at that table is John Hennigan who sits with 10,000 chips.

Alaei With Aces in the Bring In

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Alaei: {X-}{X-}/{3-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{2-Spades}/{X-}
Duhamel: {X-}{X-}/{4-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{9-Spades}/{X-}

Daniel Alaei brought in, Jonathan Duhammel completed and Alaei called. On fourth street Alaei check-raised a bet by Duhamel which was then called. Alaei led out on fifth, sixth, seventh, all of which were called by Duhamel.

Alaei turned over {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}{J-Diamonds} for trip Aces and Duhamel mucked. Alaei is now up to 10,200 while Duhamel slips to 6,000.

Long Live Ylon

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Ylon Schwartz - (x) (x) / {8-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{j-Hearts} / (x)
Opponent - (x) (x) / {9-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} / (x)

When we reached the table, Schwartz was heads up with an opponent on fourth street. He check-called a bet, did the same on fifth, and on sixth he led out with a pair of jacks. His opponent raised, Schwartz immediately put in a third bet, and his opponent called. Schwartz led again on seventh street, but his opponent yelled "uncle," mucking his hand.

Schwartz is now up to 20,000 chips.
