Serock Knocked Out

Level 7 : 200/400, 0 ante

Joe Serock, down to just about 3,000, opened with a pot raise from middle position and got one caller from the button. The blinds folded and the flop came all hearts -- {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{A-Hearts}. Serock tossed his remaining chips in and his opponent quickly called.

Serock showed {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} for top two and his opponent showed {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts} for top and bottom pair. The turn brought the {7-Diamonds}, filling up his opponent. The river was the {K-Spades}, and Serock hits the rail.

Hellmuth Finally Makes His Exit

Level 7 : 200/400, 0 ante

Hellmuth won one pot but had fallen back to just 1,400 when he moved all in and got a call from Robert Mizrachi in the small blind. Mizrachi showed, {q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Hellmuth had {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{6-Spades} The board ran out {3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{10-Spades} and Mizrachi took three quarters of the pot with the flush and shared {a-}{6-} low.

The very next hand, an under the gun player raised to 1,500 and Hellmuth put his last 900 in and every one else folded. Hellmuth had {a-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and the UTG player had {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs} the board ran out {7-Hearts}{j-Spades}{k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and that was all she wrote for Hellmuth. No blowup for Phil though, he wished everyone luck and calmly walked out (hell has frozen over).

Chips for Chen

Level 7 : 200/400, 0 ante

Tommy Chen limped in from under the gun, and it folded around to the small blind who called. The big blind checked his option. The flop came {K-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{K-Spades}, and all three players checked. The turn was the {3-Hearts}. The SB checked, BB bet 1,100, Chen called, and the SB folded.

The river was the {9-Hearts} and Chen's opponent checked. Chen bet 1,500, and with a grimacing look his opponent called. Chen showed {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs} for the nut flush, and his opponent showed one card -- the {K-Clubs} -- before mucking.

Chen is up to about 24,000 now.

The Most Misunderstood Game on the Planet

Level 7 : 200/400, 0 ante

Phil Hellmuth was down to just 2,000 chips when the big blind (400) reached him, cutting his stack to 1,600. Robert Mizrachi opened with a raise from middle position, and it folded back to Hellmuth who checked his cards. He then looked up addressed us as we stood by the table noting the action.

"If I fold this hand heads up and you put it on the internet," he said, "there will be fireworks." He then did just that, showing three cards -- {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades} -- then declaring the fourth was the {7-Clubs}. "I just want to blow their minds," he added.

The table was reacting to the fold with laughter, but Hellmuth was undeterred. "This is the most misunderstood event on the planet," he said. "There are just six players who understand that fold. Mikey "the Mouth" [Matusow] is one of them. The six best PLO/8 players..."

"And they're all broke," said Mizrachi, provoking more chuckles.

Hellmuth is now sitting with just 1,000.

Barry Shulman Doing Barry Well

In a four way pot on a {a-Hearts}{7-Spades}{9-Diamonds} board, Barry Shulman checked from early position to a middle position player who bet 800. The two other players folded and Shulman called.

Both players checked the {8-Diamonds} turn and saw the {4-Spades} river.

Shulman bet out 2,800 and he got a call. Shulman showed {a-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for trip sevens and he had the {a-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades} of the other player beat. Shulman is up around 12,500 after the hand

Seidel Rebuilding

Level 6 : 150/300, 0 ante

After a player limped from the hijack, Erik Seidel called from the cutoff. The small blind limped, the big blind checked his option, and four players saw a flop of {8-Spades}{9-Hearts}{J-Spades}.

Action checked to Seidel and he bet a modest 425. Surprisingly, the bet was enough to clear the field and allow Seidel to take down the small pot. He is up to around 7,000.

Brazilians Well Represented

With 2,700 in the pot and a flop of {3-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{J-Diamonds}, Brazilian Alexandre Gomes checked and allowed his opponent in the cutoff to bet 2,250. Gomes tanked for awhile before releasing his hand. Gomes is still sitting pretty with 20,000 and no doubt looking to become the second Brazilian poker pro to win a bracelet this year . . . the other was his good friend Andre Akkari.
