The river was the , and Ahmed checked a third time. Lester tossed out a hefty 575,000-chip bet, and Ahmed released his hand.
Scott Seiver: (X)(X) / / (X)
Matt Glantz: (X)(X) / / (X)
Seiver completed, Glantz raised, and Seiver called. Seiver check-called a bet on fourth street, and both players checked on fifth. Seiver led on sixth and seventh, receiving calls on both streets, and Seiver opened for sevens and threes.
It seems we have two very different tables left in action here in Event #55: $50,000 Poker Player's Championship. The far table from our desk, Table 280 with Ben Lamb, Scott Seiver, Minh Ly, Brian Rast and Matt Glantz, is playing far more aggressive and looser than the table nearest to us with George Lind, Phil Hellmuth, Owais Ahmed, Vladimir Shchemelev, Jeff Lisandro and Jason Lester.
On the far table, there are three World Series of Poker gold bracelet winners with Seiver, Lamb and Rast. All of them have one apiece. On the near table, Hellmuth has 11, Ahmed has one, Lisandro has five and Lester has one to total 18 WSOP gold bracelets. Experience with plenty of gold lies on one table while youth and feistiness sits on the other table.
Which table will produce the bracelet winner in this event: the one full of tortoises or the one full of hares?
Just had a big pot LHE hand develop between Vladimir Shchemelev, Jason Lester, and Phil Hellmuth.
The trio each put four bets in prior to the flop coming . First to act, Hellmuth bet, Shchemelev called, then Lester raised from the button. Acting very hastily, Hellmuth made it three bets, Shchemelev folded, and Lester called.
The turn was the , Hellmuth rapidly checked, and when Lester checked behind Hellmuth pushed out a bet, momentarily confusing George Lind watching the hand who called out "whoa" when the dealer started to deal fifth street. Then it was clarified -- Hellmuth was betting the river in the dark. The river brought the , and Lester called Hellmuth's bet.
"Set of kings," said Hellmuth, showing . "You have a set of nines, huh?" he added. Lester wasn't saying. He took another look at his cards, then tossed them face down to the dealer.
Lester tumbles to about 620,000, while Hellmuth is up over 1.5 million now.
We caught the action on fourth street, where Seiver led out and Ly called. Ly made the best board on fifth, he check-called a bet from Seiver, and then check-called two more bets on sixth and seventh. Seiver opened up , and somehow scooped the whole pot.
George Lind raised from middle position and Jeff Lisandro called from the big blind. The two players took the flop of and both players checked. The landed on the turn and Lisandro led with a bet. Lind called.
The river was the to complete the board and both players checked. Lisandro couldn't produce a better hand than Lind's for ace high and mucked.
