JC Tran Runs Into A Monster

JC Tran eliminated
JC Tran eliminated

After losing most of his stack to Alex Freiberg (who made quad sevens), JC Tran got his remaining chips in the middle with {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs} against an opponent's {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}. The board ran out {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, and Tran made his way to the rail.

Freiberg, meanwhile, is among the chip leaders with close to 70,000 in chips. He's joined at the table by Eric Buchman, another one of our leaders here in Level 11.

Give Brenes His Money

We got to the table as Team PokerStars pro Humberto Brenes was heads up with his opponent on the turn with the board reading {6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Spades}. Brenes had bet out 2,000, and his opponent raised to 4,000. Brenes called, and the river came the {9-Clubs}. Brenes checked to his opponent, who thought for about 20 seconds before checking as well. As soon as he checked, Brenes said "send me the money" and showed {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}. Indeed he was right, as his opponent showed {a-Spades}{q-Spades} for a missed flush draw. Brenes is up to 36,000 after the hand.

Freiberg Cracks 100k, Mizrachi Short

When we got to the table, Michael Mizrachi and Alex Freiberg were heads up on a flop that read {q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. Mizrachi check called a bet from Freiberg, and the {2-Hearts} peeled off on the turn. Mizrachi again check called a bet, and the river was the {7-Clubs}. Mizrachi checked a third time, and this time, Freiberg checked, showing {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. Mizrachi mucked his hand, and he is on thin ice with just 5,200, while Freiberg is the first player to crack the 100k milestone, as he's up to 100,500.

Another Bracelet Winner Down

Dutch Boyd
Dutch Boyd

Dutch Boyd had done some building since the last time we checked in with him, but the former WSOP bracelet winner was just eliminated over at Table 436.

In the hand that left him crippled, Boyd raised preflop to 2,400 and Ismael Bojang three-bet to 3,600 from the cutoff. Boyd called and the two players saw a flop of {j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. Boyd checked-raised Bojang's flop bet, but Bojang immediately fired back with a three-bet. Boyd called with just 3,000 chips behind, and the dealer rolled out the {J-Spades} on the turn. Boyd checked and then went into the tank after Bojang put in his big bet. After a few minutes and some chatter from Bojang, Boyd released his hand.

Boyd was eliminated on the very next hand, meaning he'll have to wait another day to chase after his third WSOP bracelet.

Cage Canned

We reported earlier that Tom Cage, who came into today as the chip leader, was having a rough go of it today, and it appears as though his bad luck continued through the break, as he has been eliminated from today's play.
