The action started with an under the gun raise from Bradley Craig who made it 5,500 and Nadya Magnus, in middle position, decided to three-bet to 12,000. The action got folded around to Craig who made the call.
The flop came down and Craig checked to Magnus who bet 12,000. Craig, who finished 50th in the 2009 WSOP Main Event, moved all-in and Magnus made the call.
Nadya Magnus
Bradley Craig
The turn was the and the river the ending Magnus's tournament run. Craig is faring really well, he is now up to 250,000 chips.
Earlier we told you that Ryan Schmidt had made his mark on this competition after the elimination of Eli Elezra. Well it's about time we told you a little bit more about him because he is now standing head and shoulders above the rest of the field.
This is Schmidt's 8th WSOP cash since he cashed in the $1,000 WSOP event back in 2009. This includes a 322nd place finish in the Jonathan Duhamel Main Event year; but his biggest cash to date was for $67,150 when he won a $1,000 Bellagio event containing 246 entries.
Schmidt is now our tournament leader with 400,000 chips, after eliminating Jesse Martin. We joined the action very late with Martin seated in the cutoff, Schmidt seated on the button and the pair battering the hell out of each other climaxing in an all-in pre flop showdown.
Schmidt
Martin
Board:
Martin couldn't find the ace and headed to the cash desk, but he must be so frustrated after being in such a good position.
Ryan Schmidt has just decided to stamp his mark on Event #2. He has just been responsible for eliminating Eli Elezra, the man who ended Day 1 flying high. It was your classic coin flip with Schmidt holding and Elezra holding . We did not see the board but it was obviously favourable to Schmidt because he now has Elezra's chips. Elezra will be disappointed but he is experienced enough to shake it off and move on.
Sometimes the best hands in poker are ones that you never even see a flop. Sadan Turker raised to 5,500 in the hijack seat and the action stopped cold dead at the feet of Andrew Badecker in the small blind. Badecker wears different coloured shades every day and today the green coloured shades were draped around his neck so we could see the glare as it fired into Turker. Badecker three-bet to 14,700 and the eyeballs in the room switched back to the lad from England. Turker went into his stack and pulled out a four-bet of 31,500 and gently pushed it into the middle. Back to Badecker and he didn't want any part of it and passed his cards to the dealer.
We just found Jacob Bazeley sitting in Layne Flack's former seat with a mountain of chips. Bazeley has around 230,000 chips and is our tournament chip leader.
Jean-Robert Bellande likes to play poker, pure and simple. The mixed cash game, and sometime tournament player, seems to be involved in most pots at his table. Unfortunately, for Bellande, that may have to stop as he has just dropped down to 42,000. We saw him get all of the money into the middle on the flop of holding . His opponent was holding and the hand held up.
We caught the action on the turn in a hand between two of the most successful professionals left in the field. John Juanda just cashed for over half a million dollars in the WPT $100,000 High Roller last week and managed to pick up a WSOP bracelet in last years $10,000 2-7 No Limit Single Draw tournament. As of today Juanda's live tournament earnings exceed $12 million and he has a total of five WSOP bracelets to his name.
Vanessa Selbst is widely known as the best female poker player with just under five million in live tournament earnings. Her biggest victory came in the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event when she picked up a cool $1.8 million. She's also the last female to win an open event here at the WSOP, taking down the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha tournament in 2008.
After this impressive introduction the hand we just saw is almost not even worth mentioning, but it is good to know we still have two superstars left in the field. The board read when Juanda checked from the small blind and Selbst checked her button. The river was the and again Juanda checked. Selbst gave it some thought and with around 22,000 she said, "I'm gonna be really dumb", and checked. Juanda said he had a nine and Selbst replied with, "I win, but I just wanna see", and he turned over his . Selbst tabled and raked in this pot giving her extra information about Juanda's play. With just over 100 players left in the tournament a serious deep run is within reach for these highly experienced players.
