Another Run for Matros?

Fresh off winning his third bracelet in as many years, Matt Matros is back to work and dominating his first table today. Matros has more than double the chips of his other two opponents combined. One of them is McLean Karr, who just won a pot and seemed thrilled to be back to his starting stack.

Defending champ Justin Pechie was seated at this table earlier, so there's a good chance his chips were handed over to Matros.

Table 29 Three Handed

Ari Engel Leads His Table
Ari Engel Leads His Table

Table 29 is currently playing three-handed with Ari Engel as the chip leader squaring off against Brandon Cantu and Jonathan Little.

We caught up to the table on a {3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} board. Jonathan Little threw out a bet and Cantu raised. Little three-bet and Cantu called.

Fifth street brought the {7-Clubs} and Little bet out again. Cantu called but mucked his hand when Little tabled {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for the wheel.

Crazy Mike In The House

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

There's never a dull moment when "Crazy" Mike Thorpe is at a poker table. And today is no exception.

Thorpe, who plays some of the biggest mixed cash games in Las Vegas, is seated at a table with Barry Greenstein here in the first round. With just five players left at the table, Thorpe is leaned back in his seat with his feet on the chair next to Barry.

"Do I have to smell his feet?" Greenstein asked a nearby floorperson.

"Hey, I'm comfortable," Thorpe responded. "I'm a seven-star customer so I should be able to put my feet where I please!"

Matt Glantz threw in a zinger from the next table over: "You're an idiot star."

It should be an entertaining day over in the Silver section of the Brasilia Room.

Ivey Sends One Home

Phil Ivey has been the action player at his table as of late, building his stack from remarkably short back to almost starting stack.

We found Ivey and two other players seeing a flop, one of whom was all in. The dealer pounded the table and spread out {6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{A-Hearts} in front of the players. The cutoff player checked to Ivey on the button who tossed out a bet. The cutoff quickly threw his hand away and Ivey's and the all-in player's hands were exposed:

Ivey: {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Opponent: {Q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

"Well, I could be in worse shape," remarked Ivey's opponent.

The turn brought the {K-Diamonds} and the river the {A-Spades}, crushing Ivey's opponents hopes of making Day 2 and leaving him with the story of saying that Phil Ivey eliminated him from a World Series of Poker tournament. Ivey is now sitting on about 3,900.

Engel Steamrolling Table

We caught up on the turn to find the board read {K-Spades}{9-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. One player was already all in for his tournament life and another opponent checked to Ari Engel who bet. Engel's opponent check-raised and Engel thought for a moment before tossing in a call.

Engel's opponent bet dark going to the river which came {7-Hearts}. Engel called and his opponent showed {K-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. Engel flipped up {K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} and his opponent let out a sigh of disappointment. The all in player meekly tabled {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} for a hand that did not quite get there and Engel scooped another pot.

Ivey Doubles Part II

We walked by the table to catch Phil Ivey once again throwing the last of his chips in the middle. The board read {3-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{8-Spades}{J-Spades} and Ivey tabled {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}. Ivey's opponent showed {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}.

The {6-Diamonds} completed the board and a double up was once again pushed the way of Ivey.
