Day 4 Started

Three days weren't enough to settle the score in this Event #27: $1,500 H.O.R.S.E.

On Wednesday afternoon, 889 players took their seats for Day 1, and the field was whittled down under 200 by the end of the day. Things progressed fairly quickly on down to 18 the next day, but it's been quite a stalemate since then.

When the clock ran out on Day 3 early this morning, David Chiu, Ylon Schwartz, and Stephen Chidwick were still locked in a marathon three-handed session. Each of the three men has held the chip lead at one point or another, and each of them has been nearly felted a few times along the way, too. The games have been played at an impressively high level despite the shortening stacks in relation to the betting limits.

The three are still alive and in contention for the bracelet as 30 levels have produced no champion.

Today is the day to fix that. The finalists are set to return this afternoon at 1:00 PM, and the 12-hour recess should allow them to bring their "A" games to the table today. They'll be back in the same seats they occupied this morning, taking center stage in the Pavilion for the conclusion of this long-suffering event.

We don't expect it'll take too long to play it out today, so don't stray too far. While you have a few minutes, head over to our Poker Rules page and brush up on the rules of our five games: Limit Hold'em, Omaha Hi/Lo, Razz, Stud, and Stud Hi/Lo.

We're less than an hour away from the start of play, and the bracelet awaits on of these three!

Welcome, Players

Right at 1:00 sharp, all three gentlemen walked through the door and took their seats at this final table.

The introductions are under way, and the cards will be flying in just a moment.

Limit Hold'em:

On the first hand of the day, Ylon Schwartz folded his button, and Stephen Chidwick raised from the small blind. David Chiu three-bet in the big, and Chidwick flatted to proceed.

The flop came {8-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} {5-Clubs}, and Chidwick check-folded without incident.

Omaha Hi/Lo:

Stephen Chidwick raised from the button, and Ylon Schwartz joined him for a heads-up flop out of the big blind.

The dealer spread out {7-Spades} {9-Hearts} {8-Clubs}, and Schwartz led out with the first bet. Chidwick called there, then called a big bet on the {5-Hearts} turn. That led them to the {Q-Diamonds} river, and Chidwick only had 135,000 chips left in front of him. Schwartz made the automatic bet.

Chidwick needed several minutes to think it over, and it was clear that he did not like his spot. Still, he had 500,000 in the pot already, and he couldn't find a fold. There was little choice but to make the crying call.

Showdown
Chidwick: {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {10-Spades}
Schwartz: {7-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {4-Hearts}

"Straight?" Chidwick asked. Schwartz had it, and Chidwick couldn't beat it.

It's been quite a run for Stephen Chidwick, but his run has come to an end in third place. That's good for a six-figure score, and Chidwick and his robust rail have headed off to the cashier to pick up a check.

Schwartz Takes Control

Omaha Hi/Lo:

On the second of the heads-up hands, a big pot broke out. We were still tidying up the Chidwick bust-out, but we were listening into the action through fourth street. There was betting and check-raising and reraising, and each player had more well over a million chips in the pot when we scurried down to catch the river action.

The board read {9-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}, and Schwartz made the last bet. By now, Chiu was pretty certain the jig was up, and he made a reluctant call.

"Deuces full?" he asked as he did.

"You're right," Schwartz complimented. He showed down {10-Spades} {6-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {2-Hearts}, and his deuces full were the scooper. Chiu flashed his {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} as he mucked.

That was the pot Schwartz needed to gain an edge, and he's really got Chiu on the ropes now.

Bracelet Time

Level 31

By the way, the bracelet is out on the table, sitting directly in between the two players.

David Chiu has four of those already locked up in his safe at home, along with more than $7 million in tournament winnings. A fifth bracelet would put him in some elite company.

Ylon Schwartz has yet to hoist a bracelet, but he does have more than $4 million in career winnings himself, and he's widely regarded as one of the best mixed-game players in the world.

One of those names will be inscribed in the WSOP record books this afternoon.
