This Won't Be Easy

Level 4

Carlos Mortensen, Gavin Smith, Kirill Gerasimov and Shannon Shorr are currently seated at the same table in the Red section. So much for a soft starting table.

In a recent hand Limit Hold'em hand, we saw Gerasimov raise preflop and Carlos Mortensen call on the button to see a flop of {9-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Spades}. Gerasimov check-called Mortensen's flop bet, and he did the same on the {2-Hearts} turn and {8-Spades} river. Mortensen tabled {Q-Spades}{3-Spades} for trip threes and Gerasimov mucked.

Fortunately for the aforementioned pros, the Red section is the first to break here in the Brasilia Room. They won't be together much longer.

Small One for Mayrinck

Level 4

Stud:

Joe Tehan had the bring-in with the {4-Spades} and was quickly completed by the player in Seat 2. Maria Mayrinck was next to act with her {A-Spades} and promptly made it three bets to go. Tehan got out of the way, Seat 2 made the call and it was off to the turn.

Mayrinck kept the lead with her ace and put out another bet, which inspired Seat 2 to fold. Even with that win, Mayrinck is still below the starting stack with 2,700.

Pateychuk Sends One Home

Omaha 8/b:

He did it with some help, but Andrey Pateychuk just eliminated a player in the Silver section.

Five players saw a limped flop of {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{8-Spades}, and after a bet and three calls the dealer rolled over the {7-Hearts} on the turn. Action checked over to the hijack, who put in a bet, and Pateychuk and the other three players came along for the ride. The river was the {9-Spades} and this time the player in Seat 3 fired a bet. Seat 4 folded, Seat 6 called, and Pateychuk raised. Seat 3 called and Seat 6 called all-in, and the hands were revealed.

Pateychuk: {J-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{A-Hearts}
Seat 3: {2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Seat 6: Muck

Pateychuk took the high hand with a queen-high straight, and the player in Seat 3 took the low. Seat 6 quickly made his way out the door.

With European Poker Tour and World Poker Tour titles already under his belt, Pateychuk is seeking his first WSOP bracelet to clinch the elusive Triple Crown.

Eight Hundo

Level 4

For the first time today the tournament clock has a number of entrants, which currently reads 800. That's down from last year's total of 963, though late registration is still open.

Don't Be a Deebie Downer

Limit Hold'em:

Four players saw a flop of {8-Spades}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades} and Shaun Deeb led out with a bet from the small blind. The player in the big blind then raise, a middle-position player folded, and the cutoff put in a three-bet. Two calls ensued followed by two checks on the {Q-Hearts} turn. Again the cutoff bet, two calls were made, and then the {Q-Diamonds} river went check-check. The cutoff fired another bullet, and this time it proved enough to take down the pot as both Deeb and the big blind folded.

After that hand, Deeb was left with just 250 and the game changed to Omaha Hi/Low. Deeb got his chips in preflop and was looking good on the {K-}{8-}{8-} flop with an {8-}{A-} in his hand, but a {K-} on the turn gave one of his opponents a higher trips. The {10-} river failed to help Deeb and he made a hasty exit out of the Brasilia Room.
