No More Good Start for Lex

The good start to Lex Veldhuis' day isn't so great anymore, with his stack disintegrating from well over the start stack to well under. We recently watched Veldhuis slamming his cards into the muck on a {3-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} board after Velduis had called his opponent's all in. The player had tabled {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}, with the rivered full-house enough to leave Veldhuis fuming.

Early Numbers

Level 2 : 25/50, 0 ante

At the moment the tournament clock is letting us know that 2,354 players have registered in today's event so far. Lat registration is still alive and kicking and we see more players take seat every moment, so we are sure that number will increase.

Turn No Good for Veldhuis

When we arrived at Lex Veldhuis' table, there was already a flop showing {k-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{7-Spades} and Veldhuis was involved in the hand against two opponents. The action was checked to Veldhuis and he promptly bet 450. Only one player would make the call, while the other sent his cards into the muck.

The dealer flipped over a {q-Spades} on the turn and this time Veldhuis checked behind his opponent. The {6-Clubs} river would see Veldhuis' opponent lead this time, making it 1,100 to see his cards. Veldhuis looked slightly perplexed, eventually making the call. The player tabled his {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, enough for a turned straight to see Veldhuis' cards into the muck. Despite losing that hand, Veldhuis has had a good start to the day, sitting with well over the starting stack.

For those that don't know, Veldhuis is not only known as one of the best poker player's in the world, he is also known for his exploits fighting Betrand Grospellier in the MMA ring. Truly entertaining stuff.

A Couple of Hands

Here is how a couple of small hands recently played out on Randy Lew's table in the Brasilia Room and Tony Dunst's table in the Pavilion Room.

  • On Lew's table, an early position player opened it up with a raise. The player on his direct left made the call and it was on Randy Lew on the button. It didn't take long for "nanonoko" to raise it up to 300 from the button and it was back on the other two players. The first player made the call and the next one shoved all-in for 1,075. Lew thought hard before opting to let it go. After that hand, Lew was left with just 1,200 in chips.
  • Over on his table, Dunst opened up the action to 75 from middle position. Only the big blind would make the call as a {j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop was dealt. Dunst flicked out a 100-denominatin chip on the flop and his opponent quickly called. The {7-Diamonds} turn would see Dunst again bet, this time 225. His opponent thought long and hard before deciding to fold his cards and send the small pot to Dunst.
