Day 3 Ends With Two Remaining; Glazier In The Lead

Level 30 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Jackie Glazier - looking to be the first woman to win an open even since 2008.
Jackie Glazier - looking to be the first woman to win an open even since 2008.

After ten long levels of No-Limit Hold'em action, Day 3 of Event: 41: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em has come to an end with just two players remaining - Greg Ostrander and Jackie Glazier. Both players had the option to play an additional level to try and finish, however, both agreed to bag and tag and come back tomorrow. Glazier will come in as chip leader with 9,480,000, while Ostrander will come in with 3,070,000.

Day 3 began with 30 hopefuls, including several well-known pros and our Day 2 chip leader Joseph Chaplin. However, half of field was sent to the rail within three levels, including Shannon Shorr (30th), Dan Shak (28th), Scott Montgomery (17th), and Jason Koon (14th).

When it eventually got down to a single table, the remaining ten players re-located to the main stage. Here is how the table draw looked:

SeatPlayerChips
1Kyle Frey1,910,000
2Morten Mortensen495,000
3Darryl Ronconi1,045,000
4Roger Fontes318,000
5Greg Ostander2,645,000
6Joseph Chaplin745,000
7JP Kelly1,379,000
8Jackie Glazier1,646,000
9Paul Vas Nunes1,678,000
10Dylan Hortin890,000

It took two-and-a-half levels for the first player to bust, but when he finally did, it would be JP Kelly after running his {A-Clubs}{10-Spades} all in preflop into the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} of Hortin and failing to improve.

Out in ninth place was Hortin, who was sent to the rail after his {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} fell to Vas Nunes' {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} when Nunes caught a pair of queens on the river for the knockout.

Next to go was Frey, who also fell victim to a Vas Nunes suckout when Frey's {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} was bested by Vas Nunes' {Q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} after Vas Nunes caught a flush on the turn.

Our Day 2 chip leader, Joseph Chaplin, would fall next when he found himself in an three-way all in holding the {10-Hearts}{9-Spades}. Ronconi would scoop the pot when he turned the {A-Spades} holding the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} and Chaplin was eliminated.

Ronconi found himself out in sixth place after getting all in after a series of preflop raises with the {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts} against Ostrander's {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. The board bricked out for Ronconi and he was eliminated.

Fontes went out next after finding himself short-stacked and pushing all in over the top of a Glazier raise with pocket deuces. Glazier called with {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} and the {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{K-Spades}{K-Clubs}{5-Hearts} board counterfeited Fontes' pocket twos - eliminating him in fifth place.

Mortensen was sent home in fourth after Vas Nunes scored yet another suckout when his {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} spiked a pair of treys on the river after Mortensen got all in against him with {K-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}.

Our final elimination of the night occurred after Paul Vas Nunes got into a preflop raising war with Glazier. Vas Nunes called an all-in shove of Glazier and his {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} was bested by Glazier's {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs} after she turned an unbeatable flush for the knockout.

Will Glazier become the first woman to win an open World Series of Poker Event since Vanessa Selbst, who took down a $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha event back in 2008? Or will Ostrander come from behind and claim his first WSOP gold bracelet?

Play is set to resume tomorrow at 1:00 PM PST, where Glazier and Ostrander will play to a winner no matter what. Stay tuned right here at PokerNews to find out who will claim victory and the $742,020 prize that goes along with it!

Until then, goodnight from Vegas!

Paul Vas Nunes Eliminated in 3rd Place ($290,407)

Paul Vas Nunes 3rd place
Paul Vas Nunes 3rd place

Jackie Glazier opened to 170,000 from the small blind and Paul Vas Nunes three-bet to 475,000 from the big blind. Glazier moved all in and Vas Nunes called to put himself at risk.

Vas Nunes: {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Glazier: {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

The {2-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{J-Clubs} flop gave Glazier a flush draw and sure enough, a {5-Clubs} landed on the turn - sending Glazier's rail into a frenzy. A meaningless {J-Diamonds} landed on the river and Glazier sent Vas Nunes to the rail with a flush.

Action folded over to Paul Vas Nunes in the small blind, who went all in against Morten Mortensen in the big blind. Mortensen peaked at his cards and called to put himself at risk.

Vas Nunes: {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Mortensen: {K-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

Mortensen was poised to double up, however the board ran out {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{A-Hearts}.....{3-Spades}, pairing Vas Nunes' trey on the river to send Mortensen to the rail in 4th place.

Vas Nunes is just under seven million now.

Darryl Ronconi opened to 110,000 from the button and it was folded over to Greg Ostrander on the big blind, who re-popped it to 350,000 total. Ronconi tanked hard, shuffling his chips and mowing his decision over for quite some before announcing he was all in.

"I hope you're not Hollywooding me," Ostrander said. He then made the call to put Ronconi at risk.

Ronconi: {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}
Ostrander: {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}

The {7-Hearts}{5-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} board left Ostrander with fives-full of tens, which was more than enough to send Ronconi to the rail in 6th place.

Ostrander is now up to three million in chips.

Joseph Chaplin went all in for his last 170,000 from early position and action folded around to Morten Mortensen on the button, who pushed out a stack of green for a hefty re-raise. Directly behind him, Darryl Ronconi called all in for a little over 300,000 for a three-way all-in pot.

Chaplin: {10-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Mortensen: {A-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}
Ronconi: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{A-Spades}{3-Hearts}, leaving Ronconi with a pair of aces for the scoop and eliminating Chaplin in 7th place.

Ronconi is up to 810,000 and Mortensen is now sitting on 1.55 million.

Action folded around to Paul Vas Nunes in the small blind, who went all in. Kyle Frey called all in for his last 735,000 and cards were flipped over.

Frey: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}
Vas Nunes: {Q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}

Frey was in great shape to double, but the {7-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} board left Vas Nunes with a winning flush and Frey was sent to the rail in 8th place.

Vas Nunes has been running rather hot lately and is now sitting on a dominating 5,300,000 stack.

Paul Vas Nunes opened to 110,000 from early position and Dylan Hortin three-bet to 225,000 directly behind. Vas Nunes responded by going all in and Dylan Hortin called off his remaining 1.2 million to put himself at risk.

Hortin: {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Vas Nunes: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

Hortin was in good shape to double up going to the flop, which came {2-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}. Hortin was still in good shape, however the {7-Spades} turn gave Vas Nunes a flush draw and Hortin a bit of a sweat as he would need to fade any spade or queen to survive.

Kelly: {A-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Hortin: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}

Kelly was dominated and would need help going to the flop. However, the {K-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{5-Spades} board kept Hortin and front and Kelly was sent to the rail in 10th place.

Chaplin Leads Going into Day 3; Many Notables Still in the Hunt

Jackie Glazier - looking to be the first woman to win an open event this year.
Jackie Glazier - looking to be the first woman to win an open event this year.

Welcome back to the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino for Day 3 of Event 41: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em! Today is to be the day where we play down to an eventual winner, though, with 30 players still in the hunt - there is still a long ways to go!

Best positioned to bring home the gold bracelet is our Day 2 chipleader Joseph Chaplin - who managed to break the million chip mark and bag up 1,085,000. Right behind Chaplin is the only other player who broke 1 million during Day 2 - Jackie Glazier (1,077,000), who is also our last woman standing in the event.

That being said, there is still plenty of well-known poker talent left in the field who will by trying their best to rise to the top. Also looking to take down the bracelet, and the $742,072 prize that goes with it, are poker pros Scott Montgomery, Jason Koon, Dan Shak, JP Kelly, Shannon Shorr and Fabrice Soulier, who just last year took down the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. event for a cool $609,130 and his first-ever gold bracelet.

Here are the seating assignments and chips going into Day 3:

(The last woman to accomplish this was Vanessa Selbst - when she took down a Pot-Limit Omaha event in 2008.) Or will victory fall the way of one of the many remaining pros?

Play is set to begin at 1:00 PM PST so please stay tuned right here with us at PokerNews as the action unfolds and we race our way to finding another WSOP champion!
