Event 50: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em
Day 1 Started
Welcome back to the Rio for continued coverage of the 2012 World Series of Poker. Today we will be right in the midst of the action in Event 50: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em and it's sure to be a big day of poker.
Apart from the Main Event, there is no larger buy-in event that the hold'em specialists are keen to play. Add in some of the best players in the world and the action junkies ready to dish out $5,000 on any game there is, and we have ourselves one action-packed tournament.
Last year saw 865 players create a monster prize pool in this event and it was Allen Bari who claimed the title, defeating Maria Ho heads-up at one of the more memorable final tables. This year is sure to be just as huge, with the word being that 500 players have already dished out the buy-in at this early stage in the day.
It's going to be a stacked field today and PokerNews will be here every step of the way to crowning a champion. It all begins at 12:00 PM, so don't miss it!

When we arrived over at Emil Patel's table, he was in the big blind and, along with two opponents, was committing 875 in chips preflop. On the flop, the small blind checked and Patel flicked out 1,500 quickly. The other player in the hand tank-folded and the small blind instantly folded and Patel the handy little pot early

Every time we look up more and more players are entering the Brasilia Room. Just 20 minutes ago around 525 players were at the tables, there is now more than 700. That's still a large number away from the 865 who entered this event last year, but it's getting closer and there is plenty of time left for players to register.
