Event 56 Entrants = Endangered Species

Level 6 : 100/200, 25 ante

"Seat open, 16!" "Seat open, 42!"

The blinds are rising, the antes have kicked in, and players are falling. Fast.

The big board is showing we're already down to just 1,240 from our starting field of nearly 2,800. It won't be long before everyone left in the tourney will be playing poker in the same room, as the Brasilia can handle around 900.

As we move toward the dinner break, we'll begin gathering some chip counts for some notables, and later this evening will add in some big stacks, too, as the field continues to shrink.

Negreanu In His Groove

Level 6 : 100/200, 25 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu is here, seemingly none worse for wear after busting from Event 55: $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop earlier this afternoon. Just now he was standing in between a couple of tables, grooving to tunes pumping through his Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.

He sat back down to take a hand at his table, calling a raise and seeing a flop with several opponents. "I like these 1500s," he said, calling for a {6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} flop and then folding when the board came all black cards.

Liv Boeree is seated across the table from Negreanu, and the two of them commenced to discussing the recently completed Event 49: $1,500 Ante-Only No-Limit Hold'em event. "It was fun," said Negreanu, adding that they'll probably want to add a couple of levels if they try it again next year.

Negreanu has chipped up a bit as well since he's gotten here, no doubt adding further to his good mood. He's at about 11,000 now, while Boeree has 5,500.

Another One for Selbst

Vanessa Selbst just sent another player to the rail. Unfortunately, it was our very own Chad "Birdshirt" Holloway who took the abuse.

A short-stacked Holloway moved all in for 2,525 from the cutoff with {K-}{Q-}. Action folded around to Selbst in the big blind and she called after peeking down at {A-}{K-}. Vanessa flopped top two and had Holloway drawing dead on the turn. She's already running over her table after registering for this event late. Surprise, Surprise.

Selbst Busts Kenney... Again

Level 5 : 100/200, 0 ante

Bryn Kenney can't figure out how to beat Vanessa Selbst in a pot.

On Sunday, Selbst eliminated Kenney in 11th place of the $2,500 10-Game Six-Handed event. Selbst went on to win the tournament in dominating fashion, collecting her second WSOP bracelet and top prize of $244,259.

Moments ago, Selbst got the best of Kenney again in this $1,500 event. After she raised to 450 from the cutoff, Kenney moved all in for for about 3,900 from the big blind. Selbst called with {A-}{J-}, Kenney had {A-}{8-}, and the board rang true for Selbst as she eliminated Kenney from a tournament for the second straight day.

"Anyone Got More Chips Than Me?"

Level 5 : 100/200, 0 ante
Kennii Nguyen from Event #19
Kennii Nguyen from Event #19

That's what Kennii Nguyen asked as one of our reporters walked by his table. After a quick glance at his stack, it appears Nguyen has around 50,000 chips. Our answer to his question: probably not.

As we've seen all summer, Nguyen is decked out in his lucky jester hat with beads around his neck. And, as usual, he hasn't stopped chatting since play began. Just another day in the life of Kennii Nguyen.

And all seated at one table we see Event 52: $2,500 10-Game Mix Six-Handed winner Vanessa Selbst, Bryn Kenney, Cherish Andrews, and PokerNews' own Chad Holloway.

Makowsky Sets Up

Level 5 : 100/200, 0 ante

We arrived at Daniel Makowsky's table after the river had been dealt. The board showed {2-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and there was about 5,000 in the middle. Makowsky had pushed all in for his last 3,975, and his opponent called. Makowsky showed {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} for a set of sixes. His opponent did not want to show his hand, and when the dealer suggested he had to, the floor was called.

The floor confirmed that with an all-in and a call, both hands had to be shown. "They want to make sure we're not colluding," explained Makowsky. The player showed his {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}, and Makowsky now sits with about 13,000.
