Sands Trapping

Level 5 : 100/200, 25 ante
The Doc got it in good.
The Doc got it in good.

There was an under the gun open to 525 when David 'Doc' Sands raised to 1,225 in the next seat. Gavin Smith made the call from the big blind but the initial raiser four-bet to 3,225. Sands made it 5,225, Smith folded and the initial raiser dumped a 5,000 orange chip into the pot and turned over his cards to show pocket aces. Sands threw him a what are you doing type of look?

"I am all-in," said the initial raiser.

The floor was called and it was deemed that the motion of placing the orange 5k chip into the pot was a call.

"I am all-in in the dark then," said the initial raiser.

Sands had only a few chips behind and the flop was {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}

"Call! I was trapping you," said Sands whilst turning over {A-Clubs} {K-Spades}, "make sure you report the fact that I got it in good."

The turn {K-Diamonds} gave Sands quads and then we had the meaningless {8-Clubs} on the river. Sands was back up to 15,000 chips.

Byron Kaverman Eliminates David Pham

David Pham has been eliminated by Byron Kaverman.

Kaverman flopped a set of deuces on a {9-} {4-} {2-} (two diamonds) board and Pham turned a straight on a {A-Clubs} turn holding {5-Clubs} {3-Clubs}. Harrison Gimbel was also in the hand and he made the initial turn bet of 2,700, Kaverman called and Pham moved all-in for around 9,000 more, Gimbel folded and Kaverman called. So Kaverman needed help on the river and it arrived in the shape of the {4-} and Pham was out.

Seidel Sent to the Rail

Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

With Kirill Kruglov making it 700 preflop, action folded around to Erik Seidel, who moved all in for 3,600 from the big blind. Kruglov made the call and Seidel was at risk for his tournament life.

Seidel: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}
Kruglov: {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}

Seidel looked like he was in great shape to double up and get back in this tournament, but the board had other thoughts. Things looked good on the {q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop, but the {9-Diamonds} turn proved disaster for Seidel as the river {3-Spades} sealed his fate and was sent packing.

Turner Turned Away

A short stacked Jon Turner was found moved to the death table, and quickly opted to move all in from late position for 1,225 after action had folded around to him. Kirill Kruglov in the cut off attempted to make the call, but accidentally min raised after he threw out too many chips. Ivey folded on the button and the small blind player raised and made it a couple more thousand for Kruglov if he wanted to see a flop. Kruglov folded and cards were tabled.

Turner: {10-Spades}{7-Hearts}
Small Blind: {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}

Turner was in bad shape and needed lady luck to help him out. A {3-Spades}{j-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop led to Turner politely calling for hearts, but to no avail as a {8-Clubs} landed on the turn. Turner now had a gut shot, if a nine was nice enough to grace the felt with its presence Turner would receive the double up he so very needed.

Here is a brief synopsis of some eliminations.

James "Flushy" Dempsey has been eliminated after getting it in good. It was a 30bb pot with {A-} {K-} versus the {A-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} of his opponent and the flop contained more diamonds than a South African mine.

Guillaume Darcourt has been eliminated by Andrew Badecker. Badecker turning a straight with {K-} {Q-} on a {J-} {9-} {9-} {10-} board and Darcourt moved all-in with {Q-} {Q-}.

David Diaz has also been eliminated but we have not been able to ascertain the hows or whys of that one.

Gonsalves Put in a Strange Spot

With ten WSOP cashes to his name, Markus Gonsalves, has a lot of WSOP experience. In that time we imagine he has been put in a lot of tough spots and a lot of ridiculous spots and here is the latter.

The dealer had done his job and the board was showing {5-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {9-Spades} {6-Clubs}. Pantling checked to Gonsalves and he made a value bet of 3,000 leaving 20,000 behind and Pantling put him all-in.

"You haven't got the straight flush have you?" Asked Gonsalves.

It became apparent that Gonsalves had the nut flush and he tanked for a good three minutes before making the call. He was holding {A-Clubs} {K-Spades} and Pantling showed the bluff of {10-Spades} {8-Spades}. Despite that bluff Pantling still has 58,000 chips. Gonsalves is up to 55,000.
